Prolific Nottingham shoplifter stole from Superdry, Tesco and city bars

A prolific young shoplifter who stole thousands of pounds worth of goods from the Superdry, Tesco and bars in Nottingham has been jailed. Mohammad Alali pleaded guilty to 15 thefts and three burglaries across the city between February and April, which police said he used to fund his drug habit.

The 18-year-old stole more than £2,000 worth of products from Superdry in Victoria Centre across February and March. In the same period he also stole £230 worth of energy drinks from Tesco Express in Upper Parliament Street, Morrisons Daily in Ilkeston Road and Greggs in Clumber Street.

Alali, who also stole from Next in Victoria Centre, committed three burglaries at Slug and Lettuce at The Cornerhouse, stealing alcohol from behind the bar on each occasion. He also stole an iPad from Revolution, also at The Cornerhouse, and a jacket from Bierkeller, in Friar Lane, during the same month.

He was arrested on April 29 after he was spotted in Angel Row. He was charged and put before magistrates.

Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard on Wednesday, May 1, Alali, of Radford Road, Radford, was on a suspended prison sentence at the time of the offences, having previously been convicted of theft. He was jailed for 16 weeks after entering the guilty pleas.

Sergeant Jono Pothecary, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It is clear by Alali’s persistent offending that he has a complete disregard for local busineses and orders given to him by the judicial system. He is dependent on controlled drugs and uses his offending as a means to fund this habit.

"We therefore welcome this sentence as it gives him an opportunity to undertake the rehabilitation he requires whilst giving local businesses some much-needed respite from his offending."
