Funimation’s Blu-ray transfer quality for Paranoia Agent (physical)
How is the transfer quality for Funimation’s Paranoia Agent? I linked the actual version I’m referring to. ASIN: B08JF5FHJN - December 15, 2020

It seems like people are saying the transfer is a bit poor but I wanted to get opinions from the experts from this sub. The steelbook version is also from funimation but by any chance is the transfer better on that?
I own the physical Blu-ray of Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress which are both remastered by Shout Factory and they did a pretty good job. It’s unfortunate how I don’t know what to expect with Funimation. Sometimes great. Sometimes disappointing.
It's an SD upscale. Paranoia Agent was produced after the shift from cell animation to digital, but before most shows were digitally produced in HD. As such, it's going to look a lot more blurry than more modern shows, and certainly not anywhere near as good as Kon's movies look on BD. This is true of most shows from this era that get BD releases.
The transfer is based on the Japanese blu ray which was an upscale. Not sure how much Funimation is to blame for picture quality tbh. The steelbook release would probably be the exactly as same as the regular release.
