In April 2015, Warner Bros. Studios announced that a live adaptation of Five Nights At Freddy's was in development, with Gil Kenan set to direct. However, problems soon arose as production faced many setbacks, which was mainly down to the film industry. With it still being stuck in development hell by 2017, the Five Nights At Freddy's eventually moved to Blumhouse Productions, with producer Jason Blum announcing that it was now set to be directed by Christopher Columbus and written by Scott Cawthon.

The chances of a sequel also happening look extremely promising, especially as Matthew Lillard revealed to the podcast WeeklyMTG that he had signed a "three-picture deal with Universal and Blumhouse" in 2023. If this is true, then the official announcement will likely arrive a couple of days after the movie's release.
