The Sand Plot Synopsis:

After an epic beach party in celebration of their college graduation, a large group of hung-over twenty-somethings wake up in a secluded private beach. But, under the bright light of an otherwise ordinary Spring-break morning, the unsuspecting teens realise that, somehow, the sand under their feet is alive, ready to devour those who touch it. Now, as the death toll keeps rising, an unseen carnivorous entity is waiting patiently for their slightest wrong move. Is there an escape from the killer beach?

The Sand (2015) Review

The Sand (2015) is an American science fiction horror movie that I had low expectation for but did remarkably well. Director Isaac Gabaeff (The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), Men in Black 3 (2012), The Place Beyond the Pines (2012), Win Win (2011)) did a wonderful job directing his first full-length movie. The Sand contains suspense, action filled from the beginning, bad language, lots of twists, games, gore, thrills and will make you think twice about touching strange objects on the beach. The movie was a great enjoyable watch that I do not mind showing to guest although it is not something that I will choose to see by myself again.

The Sand revolves around a beach that eats people like sharks are not terrifying enough! A group of young adults are having an all night college graduation party in the spring at a private beach. Heather (Etalvia Cashin - Cuffing Season (2014), Stretch (2014), Date Night (2010)) decides to film the party. Vance (Hector David Jr. - Power Rangers Samurai (2011), Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)) and Gilbert (Cleo Berry - Mow Crew (2009), 200 M.P.H. (2011), Zombie Apocalypse (2011)) found a huge ball that is covered in a gooey substance.
Everyone was heavily wasted/drunk and fell asleep on the beach. The humongous group woke up to only finding four people in one car, one person on a wooden bench, two people in a life guard tower and one person inside a trashcan which totals eight people who survived the night. The group soon discover that a sand eating monster that has a hunger for human flesh resides in the sand that they are on. The other thing is that they cannot move if they are on a certain part of the sand. The sand monster will do just about anything to make his next meal remain until he is ready to consume them. Needless to say that the group decreases in size over time as they try to escape the terrible faith that they have met. Jonah discovers that the monster dislikes fire and will not go next to it but will it be enough to save the remaining survivors?

The movie overall was not a bad watch but was not an excellent movie either because the movie was a cliche but had enough material to distinguish it from others of its kind. The music, suspense, and twists were done amazingly well and there were other great aspects of the movie. Unfortunately, it was not a movie that I would like to see again by myself and does not have enough meat to keep me entertain for the entire movie. All of the actors did a fantastic job with their roles with two of my favorites being Meagan Holder and Dean Geyer. The CGI sand monster was not up to standards and was not graphically appealing.
