We arrived at the Como San Giovanni Railway Station from Milan, It's a small station with only 4 tracks. As I recall, there was an elevator that takes you to the front of the station, with a shop, taxis and buses. Just below the station is a park with an interesting hand sculpture. We also took the train from this station back to Milan three days later. The station was clean, modern and easy to get around.

This is a very small but very friendly designed station. There is an information kiosk when you enter the station to guide you where and how to go in Lake Como. The staff was very useful and friendly. I benefit a lot from the map and information received. There is a restaurant, mini market, Internet cafe, toilets, and gift shop also.

I couldn't see any step-free access from the platform we arrived at, which was slightly annoying with a large suitcase but would be fairly terrible if you rely on wheeled transport for mobility.

The other annoying thing was that the bus service to further up the lake was very infrequent and we had to walk down to the water taxi instead.

I’m giving this just 2 stars from my perspective as a wheelchair user. Although we were staying near the Lake, San Giovanni was the better choice of station because the train went into Milano Centrale. Como Nord Lago was closer but it would have meant one change to arrive at Centrale.

I bought the tickets online on the day through my Trainline account and I’m glad I did. When we first arrived at the station on that mid week morning, there was no one at the ticket office so we made our way to our train’s platform using the lifts. We were hoping to arrange a ramp on and off the train but there were no staff visible on any of the platforms. There didn’t appear to be a customer service desk either.

We made our way back to the ticket office which by then had opened and a lengthy queue had formed. When it was our turn we were told we’d have to book 24 hours in advance for assistance, so we were on our own. Thankfully our inter city train had an automatic ramp matching the platform height which meant we didn’t have to step up. The local trains on the other hand had several steps up to the carriage, which we’d have struggled with.

Basic railway station. If you drop off, out of the station. Cross the pedestrian crossing . Walk straight down . You will come to the center area . There are buses to other place in como here. But you need to check it out yourself . If you have heavy luggage and cannot go down the stairs T the end of the pedestrian crossing . You can follow the traffic down by walking along the pavement . It also works.

The eateries at the station is operated by Chinese who can speak local language . It feels good to see Chinese and Chinese instant cup Noodle here.

Currently some platforms are only accessible by large flights of stairs. If you have a lot of luggage or mobility issues it is a problem. Once the elevators are refurbished it will be fine.

This station was small and easy to navigate. It has a cafe and a shop. There was no heat inside and felt very cold on a cold February day.

As stated the staff at info are amazing, some bloke running the tobacco kiosk was disgracefully rude and unhelpful, . Certainly would want him to be representative of Station staff,

A nice small train station that's easy to reach from Milan (30 minutes) or Zurich (2 hours). Central to the town most places are within walking distance of the station. Easy to buy your tickets from vending machines when you get there.
