Garbage & Recycling

The City contracts its garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection services through Republic Services, Inc. and through Waste Management, Inc. in the Woodlands area recently annexed into the City from Snohomish County. The boundary map for the Waste Management collections area can be found here.  

If you have a service issue with your respective provider, you are encouraged to contact them directly. However, for unresolved issues with Republic Services or Waste Management, please contact the city Utility Billing Department at: 360-794-7400.

Republic Services, Inc. Republic Trucks

Curbside waste collection services are provided to most of Monroe homes and businesses by Republic Services. Their services for both residential and commercial customers include garbage, recycling, and yard waste/compost collection. They collect on all holidays except New Years Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Reminder to address your totes

Please mark your address on your garbage, recycling, and yard waste/compost collection totes provided to you by Republic Services. This can be done with spray paint, markers, or any manner as long as the collection driver can read it. This is a requirement for service at all multifamily complexes and duplexes.

Inclement weather and service disruptions

If weather conditions prevent Republic Services from safely collecting your refuse totes, updates will be posted on their website regarding the adjusted collection schedule or cancelled pickup. Additional collection details can be found here. 

Republic Services' Annual Community Cleanup Event - May 11, 2024, 8am-12pm

This event is free to Republic Services' residential customers who live within Monroe city limits and will be held at the fairgrounds in the north grandstand lot. Mailers containing details on the event will be sent out in advance and should be brought along as proof of residency. The following types of materials are accepted:

  • Regular household trash (must be bagged)
  • Furniture
  • Scrap metal

Waste Management of Washington, Inc. WM Truck

Residential curbside waste collection services are provided to the Monroe Woodlands area by Waste Management. The Monroe Woodlands area was annexed into the City in February 2022 from Snohomish County. This area will continue to be served by Waste Management through 2033.

Residential curbside collection services provided by Waste Management include garbage, recycling, and yard waste/compost collection. Waste Management collects on all holidays except New Years Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
