Robert F. Kennedy Community High School Reviews
Rating 3.97 out of 5 74 reviews
My overall experience with Robert F Kennedy Community High School was great. I was a recent transfer and all I could say was that the teachers were very kind and supportive. For example, if 2 or 3 students had to use the bathroom the teacher would always have 2 bathroom passes. If a student had a bathroom emergency they would write you a tiny white pass and the individual is still allowed to use the restroom while 2 or 5 people are waiting in line. The treatment of the school teachers and staff is a lot better than my old school. There was once when I had asked about the school regents, it was a lot different than my old school, in this school as soon as I transferred I received an ELA regents book, which made me happy as well. The teacher allowed me to get regents help while he was teaching the 1-period class for like one time. If you get in trouble for once the teachers are still on good terms with you unless you do something bad.
Within this community I'm in, being Robert F. Kennedy Community High School, the high school experience I once dreamed of shattered once I entered this school in many ways. Although, there are some positives. Such as the teachers who try their best to supply us with knowledge despite being under the NYCDOE. Or the classes offered, such as art class or computer applications which I have been able to take. But despite these things, the environment still has its negatives which make me feel unsafe. The students are open to stating and doing things that can be insulting to minority groups such as saying remarks that they can not reclaim or fighting in the hallways. At times, as a minority myself, I feel shameful in myself as I hear these things and start questioning whether or not I should be judging myself too like these people are judging others like me. But I know above all to keep going and striving for what I want to do post high school as this is just one step to better things.
Being in RFK for 2 years I'd say I have a good insight on what the school truly is. RFK is at the heart of Queens with a very diverse student body, you can pretty much find students of all different types of background which is really surprising for a school with a small student body. Academic wise, the school offers a pretty decent amount of AP classes, college now classes, and honor classes from 9-12. Most of the teachers are great and are willing to let kids in for office hours for those who are behind. The school also has a decent amount of clubs that could interest students and plenty of sports throughout the year. There are also really nice events that occur throughout the year like Multicultural night, Pi-day, and the Halloween dance. Now for some cons, I feel as though some students really have no respect to those around them, vaping is stagnant especially in bathrooms. There are some few more, but overall this school is good especially when there's deli's nearby and Mcdonald.
