- HINA WIslamabad, Pakistan7,367 contributionsThe Silver Bridge! This is a silver coloured stunning bridge. It was inaugurated in 2000 and has a very modern look. It is the first pedestrian-only bridge over Thames. It was nicknamed the Wobbly Bridge because it has no supporting columns and had initial tremors when too many people walked on it at one time. So the bridge was opened then closed, the problem was fixed and it was reopened after two months. It was given the name Millenium Bridge because it was the first bridge built in this Mellenium after a gap of 100 years since a new bridge was constructed over Thames. From this bridge you can have the best view of Saint Paul’s Cathedral. On the other side you can see the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.Visited August 2022Traveled with familyWritten July 8, 2023

It is located between the Southwark and Blackfriars Bridges. It has access to the Tate Modern Art Gallery.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 13, 2023

It still has the nickname of the Wibbly Wobbly Bridge due to the swaying motion it experienced when first opened, which caused it to be closed for two years for modifications to be made to stabilise the structure. I don't think it will ever loose this name!!Visited January 2024Traveled with friendsWritten January 31, 2024

From St Paul's Cathedral you see the elegant stainless steel bridge that looks like it twists it's way across the Thames.
You've seen this bridge in Harry Potter and every disaster movie.
It's a feat of engineering but at the same time beautiful and doesn't look out of place as it sits side by side with Sy Paul's and the Globe theatre. Do take a trip across

This is still one of my favourite bridges and walks in London. The views and atmosphere. In winter, it's cosy and in summer the sun setting over London is just magical. Whatever time of year, the bridge and surrounding area have a lovely atmosphere. Street artists and buskers are often around. There are many places either side of the bridge to grab a bite to eat or have a drink. I prefer the views walking away from the Tate Modern but in all honesty both ways are great. Many movies and adverts have used the bridge for filming.

There are a few locations in London which you really need to go to to get the full capital-city experience, and this is one. Plenty of Selfie opportunities.
Linking the city of London (by St Paul’s Cathedral) with the vibrant South Bank (by the Tate Modern art gallery), it is not only a useful walking route, but has a very special view up and down the River Thames, by day or night. It isn’t corny, it’s just a very special
view. You are very much at the centre of the universe!

One of the best millennium projects, this footbridge designed by the architects Foster & Partners with Arups as engineers is elegant and sleek. It is a joy to walk over, providing a direct connection between Tate Modern and St Paul's Cathedral and great views up and down the river.

Quickest way to get from St Pauls to London Bridge by foot! It's a pedestrian bridge and you often find cyclists driving over it. A great place to cross in day time or night time. The views on either direction are spectacular. Take note on the floor of the bridge where an artist has been painting over tucked in dirt and chewing gums.

The views from the bridge are wonderful of London, that is, if you can actually see them!
The fact that it is made from steel makes it impossible to see when walking over it on sunny days as the reflection blinds you! If you want to walk blindly from one side of the river to the other side then feel free to use this bridge but be careful you don't end up in the Thames

One of its kind, the steel suspension bridge has a beautiful design. On one side is the iconic St Paul's Cathedral, whose dome is visible the moment you step on the bridge and the other side is the Tate Modern Museum. It is a great walk across the Thames.

The Millenium bridge famous for being closed almost as soon as it opened due to instability is definately worth the walk. Connecting ST Paul’s to the Tate Modern it provides a new vista through London. On the bridge you can see down to Tower Bridge /The Shard + towards the South Bank in the other direction. The walking surface is very slippy when wet so take care.

How long does it take to walk from St Paul's Cathedral to Globe Theatre. If I attend St Paul's Evensong which ends at 5:45, then can I make it to the Globe in time for 7:30 play?
Thank you.

It only takes about 5 minutes to cross, taking in the sights as you go, but there are great attractions at either end including St. Paul's, Tate Modern, the Globe and the Golden Hind.
