- Edited 2 years agoIf Dave had just added the Bass and left it at that it would have been an essential release, but no Dave had to force his hippy politics on us all with fake banter from a terrible Lydon impersonator, fake crowd noise etc.
he also jumbled the running order for no sane reason
despite the commonly held opinion there is no additional guitar overdubbed on this release although Goodman did get as far as giving a tape of the show to the Guitarist in his "Ex Pistols" band and telling him to learn the songs.
The Cleopatra release "Sex Anarchy and Rock 'n'Roll Swindle" contains a unique and great sounding version of "Did You no Wrong" from this show with just an overdubbed bassline and none of the other garbage. shame we can't get the whole show in that quality.
having said all that, in reality our only choices are the raw version(s) and this, and the bass makes this more enjoyable.
Bizarrely a clip of the fake Lydon impersonator from this release even made it into the Filth & The Fury documentary ("This Songs about Harold Wilson, its called Liar ")
someone didn't do much archive research as a recording of the real Lydon saying the same words is easily available
thankfully a soundboard recording of the Paris show has now surfaced meaning we're no longer stuck with Chelmsford as our only 1976 soundboard recording
