The Round Tower Lookout Tower – Observatory – Exhibitions – Concerts. One of the best-known and most popular structures in Denmark, the Round Tower has been a distinctive feature of the Copenhagen skyline since 1642. The Tower once soared far above the rest of the rooftops in the city, and University astronomers studied the stars and planets from the Observatory at the top. The scholars may have forsaken the building a long time ago, but during the winter visitors are still able to gaze at the cosmos from Europe's oldest functioning observatory. The platform that runs around the outside of the Observatory affords views over the old Latin Quarter – from here, you can spot most of the city's famous buildings. The Round Tower does not have an elevator, so visitors have to climb the winding, white-washed Spiral Walk, where kids often hide in the niches, only to jump out shouting “boo!” as adults approach. Halfway up the tower is the entrance to the large and stunningly beautiful Library Hall, which now serves as a popular gallery and concert venue. It hosts several exhibitions a year, and stages concerts almost every week. Above the Library is the Bell Loft, notable for its enormous wooden beams, which were used in the reconstruction of the Tower following the great fire of Copenhagen in 1728. The Loft is also home to a small exhibition of fascinating artefacts from the Tower's history, including Christian IV's wax seal, a tin of medicine produced by Tycho Brahe, and a piece of the bomb that exploded in the Library Hall during the bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807.The Round Tower was built by Christian IV between 1637 and 1642. It was the first part of the Trinitatis Complex, which combined church, library and observatory in a single building.

Historic Sites
Christiansborg Palace is situated on the little island of Slotsholmen (Castle Island) which is surrounded by canals in the heart of Denmark's capital, Copenhagen. Denmark has one of the oldest monarchies in the world, and the palace has a long, dramatic history which revolves around the exercise of royal power. Today, Denmark is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of governance. Under its beautiful copper roof, the palace houses the Danish parliament, the office of the Danish prime minister and the Supreme Court. It is therefore the center for legislative, executive and judicial power in Denmark. The palace also accommodates rooms for the Danish Monarchy. Focusing on the royal part of the palace, Christiansborg Palace is H.M. the Queen's working palace. This is where the Queen holds audiences, signs laws, holds banquets and receptions, celebrates royal anniversaries and receives state visits. It is a working palace where old traditions and the modern Royal Family meet. You will see dazzling halls, adorned with colorful tapestries, vast paintings, patterned floors, glittering chandeliers, and sumptuous stucco ceilings. You can explore The Royal Kitchen and see its two tons of shiny copper kitchenware. You can visit the beautiful palace chapel, stand underneath its dome and let your head spin as you gaze up at the angels in the ceiling décor more than 30 metres above you. In The Royal Stables you'll find the the white royal horses in the wintertime, and in the summertime the exhibition "All the kings' horses" - all year around you can see the Royal Family's array of carriages. One of them is coated with 24-carat gold leaf. You can also explore the underground ruins underneath Christiansborg Palace. These are ruins of earlier castles and palaces showing that the Castle Island is steeped in 800 years of power and political intrigue.

Classic place to visit when in the city, best to go when early to see the area at its most scenic before the main crowds start to arrive. Stylish colourful harbourfront buildings, wider than Amsterdam but maybe less high. Some old warehouses have been done up and are now very smart.

Also visited later in the day and during an evening, too busy and crowded for my liking and that was in April. Prices in the restaurants reflect the busy location and in our experience not worth the money or the wait.

Wish I had time to come at night. Initially came for the Food Festival, it wasn’t the same as Food Festivals in the US. A lot smaller scale. Great place for kids, lots games and rides. Food Hall was impressive

We had a little wait to get in as we we using the copenhagen card and seemingly we couldn't book a timeslot online. Across for the ticket office is the Locker area where you need to put your rucksacks and handbags, unless they are quite small. The palace itself is a quite a neat 17th century Building with a lot of smaller type highly decorated but on the whole small rooms for a palace. Lots of wood panelling etc and a lot of ornate chest of drawer and writing tables. Plus the compulsary paintings and wall coverings, these are over the two main floors in the palace.

We found that the main features for us were down in the basement and treasury which you have to gain access from going back outside and turning right to the entrance to the lower room. This part of the building is guarded by the military,in the first basement is the Ivory and Amber room, Some of the Ivory pieces are excellently made and items here were actually made by members of the Danish Royal family themselves. The Royal treasury also has some exquisite pieces the first crown you see when you enter is so finely detailed and took our attention for quite a while. Far longer than i ever though i would look at a crown. Certainly recommend a visit here and it is the one we would pick if only looking at one of Copenhagen many palaces.

We have been in Legoland a few times already. This also tells that it is a great place for families (though also for adults). This year the time we were (10.5) there it was really full, to get something to eat at one of the restaurant took more than 1 hour (and it was not because it was so full but rather the slowiness/incompetence of the personal), at one of the attraction (Emmett's flying show) we were stucked in the queue also for an hour due to technical issues (and that was communicated in a barely hearable voice through a mic so no one really new what the hell was going on). So this years experience is scratched a bit hence 4 star, but usually I would give 5.

Great collection and well organized. Not the best description of path through the museum but gave for a fun visit of meandering. Highly recommend for an afternoon visit.

Book your tickets/time slot online in advance - it’s the only way you’ll get in. The tower was beautiful and though there were some slanted ladders as well as steps, I wouldn’t say it was difficult to climb. There’s a cute informative video in one room and panels to read in the bell room. As you can see from the photos, it’s totally worth the 30-minute time it takes!

As far as climbs up to a tower with views over a city this one is a lot easier as you can walk up the wide, conical tower with only a some steps at the top and to the observatory room. The round tower was seemingly used by one of the kings to ride his horse up to the top to the observatory. There is a stop go system at the top which is a good idea and eases potential congestion. It was fairly quiet when we visited early in the morning in April, but it will worth it with summer crowds. Good views and plenty to see on the way up, windows, an Art gallery, bell tower and also look down the hollow care at the centre of Copenhagen Zero point.

Things worth knowing are that it has stopped using the Copenhagen Card, but it is only 40 krone per person which is good value anyway. Also the DEOP hotdog van is based just outside the entrance here in the small square. The adjoining kirke as also worth a look when here. So many slightly different things so well worth a visit when in Denmark.

Every artifact from Denmark and its history seems to be here and beautifully presented. There is a nice cafe and top notch Children's Museum. A great couple of hours

My wife and I did the Christiansborg Slot tour recently while on vacation. We love seeing historical places and this one did not disappoint. We pre-booked ticket on-line and I recommend to do the same. You get to see the royal kitchen, stables and state rooms. The state rooms were closed when we got there due to event going on. They opened up about 2 hours later so we had lunch in between. The state rooms were very impressive. I recommend this one over Rosenburg due to being more modern and opulent.

Wide variety of food and drink, lots of cool shops too. Went on a Saturday at lunch time and managed to find somewhere to sit but it was bustling!

Old Town has something for everyone: history, gardens, baked goods and craftsmen. They have interactive displays, buildings you can tour and historic gardens. It’s such an eclectic mix of displays that it is hard to condense. Let’s just say that my family thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent exploring this historical park.
