How does Beard make his money?

Beard has been travelling a lot recently, obviously investing a lot in the challenges but it got me thinking. He doesn't have ads turned on in his yt videos and he doesn't really do sponsorship deals so just how does he make his money? He's travelling the world making awesome content so must be worth while!

He doesn’t have ads turned on? I get two ads before all of his videos.

And usually his videos are 10 minutes and under and that’s when the next ad break would be. But he definitely gets paid on those first ads

I'm guessing the OP means that there are no ads during the videos. He does that on purpose so as not to interrupt the viewing experience or whatever. He's pretty good when it comes to that kind of thing, he's not in it for the cash and doesn't have sponsors or ads every 5 mins.

YouTube runs ads on all channels whether they're monetized or not, but his channel definitely is

Videos can be monitored fully for 8 minutes now, got changed to that a while ago

"According to Google, the rates an advertiser pays can vary. Influencer Marketing Hub says they tend to pay between $0.10 and $0.30 per view, which usually averages out to $0.018 per ad view. So for a video with 1,000 ad views, the YouTuber would be paid $18, on average"

You have to go along way back to find a video with less than 1m views, so he's making a decent wedge.

A million views is about 50 grand. There is videos on YouTube that show you how much they make. He must be making a shit load. Probably a million a year

As someone who does YouTube, 1M views is no where close to £50k. With a good CPM, more like £10k-15k and YouTube takes 45% of that.

I would assume more like £6-8k a video final income. Which is a good income, but still lots of work to put out one every week and high costs in terms of travelling and staying hotels.

u/Late_Guard6253 avatar

He can write everything off though, if he goes on an international vacation for two weeks and does a couple food challenges he can write off the whole thing. Pretty sweet deal actually.

It's $5 - $10 per 1000 views

Lol never

u/Beginning_Jacket5055 avatar

You can't really say that cuz cpm varies so much. A million views could be $100 or it coild be $10000. 50k seems way off the mark cuz I'm pretty sure cpm maxes out somewhere around $15.

Theres plenty of YouTube vids that'll tell you about this. One funny one is a YouTuber who I watched for a short period decided to experiment by giving his regular videos finance related titles, and he revealed that his revenue after he did that quadrupled or something ridiculous like that

Well he isn't that rich...he is sleeping at a friends house since him and his missus split up

u/walkingthec0w avatar

Is this true? Where did you get the info from? Just curious

This podcast and also Mrs Beards post on Instagram

Which bit? That he isn't rich, or that he is sleeping at a friends? I'm only going by what he says on this podcast - the situation may have changed by now (being homeless I mean)

But he doesn't have ads on any of his videos is the point. That's part of the reason that I watch his videos is because it isn't constantly being interrupted every 5 seconds for double ads.

His videos do have adverts. They might be every 5 seconds but his videos do have adverts in.

I think it's more like 1 cent per 1000 views

Not from his podcast as keeps being demonetised

u/johnnyhomo avatar

What happens on his podcast where it keeps getting demonitized??

The subject the language the failure to disclose the content to YouTube it seems. They thought they were shadow banned recently. It’s worth a listen I enjoy them.

Dont know but i looked up his net worth other day .. he makes 48 grand a week :O

u/United-Ad-2411 avatar

Lots of celebs laugh about those websites. They don't know what people earn.

u/humunculus43 avatar

One of my family members is a celebrity and I can confirm the net worth calculations are ridiculously wrong

Yep, I can also confirm that the websites are way out. Sometimes by millions. They seem to estimate off the most vague amounts and do not at any time factor in for outgoings. I know a footballer, and we had a laugh over a few drinks last year when we looked up he was worth. The icing on the cake was that his contract details are quite easily available online, and they still managed to get his wage wrong.

Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden was talking about this the other day. He said those net worth sites usually get his age 'about right' and that's it! He said he is very well off, obviously, but not to the extent these sites make out. At least Beard doesn't have to pay for his food very often. Or his shirts!

Rupees

A dude who does eating challenges on youtube ain’t making no 2.5 mil a year 😂😂

I highly doubt he's making that much. Plus I think Mrs Beard got the car and the house in the split.

Wrong lol they each have their own car, he has moved to a new house and she’s stayed in their old house

Yeah she got the house they bought together, and Josh said in the podcast that he'd lost the car in the divorce. Didn't say he doesn't have an additional car.

It was never his car… he didn’t lose any car lol

YouTube advertising

u/ThorntTornburg avatar

If you've got 3.8 million subscribers and every video gets millions of views, you're making heaps of money. What he spends on travel and challenges is nothing compared to what he makes. And good for him, he's one of the few in his game who is genuine and likeable.

He's got a lot of subscriptions and a lot of videos online. Easy stuff for someone to binge as well. He probably makes a fair bit from YouTube. And then he's also trained as an investment banker, so he's probably managing his own finances. It's quite plausible that he's doing very well from that

u/Wooden_Umpire2455 avatar

He’s not an investment banker is he? He used to work as a cashier in a bank

IDK i know I've heard him say he used to work as an investment guy

He makes about 12k to 25k per video, posts multiple videos per week. And all of his expenses are right offs

u/widders avatar

And its not like he needs to eat the days in between

Not a chance is he making that sort of money of 1 video

Yeah, he can. Youtube pay up to $0.30 per ad view. He regularly gets over 2m views.

u/United-Ad-2411 avatar

Where are you seeing that? I'm seeing a lot less

https://www.google.com/search?q=youtube%20pay%20per%20view

Even if he only gets 1 cent a video he’s making 20k a video.

Ad venue is between about $5 per 1000 views. So yeah is making bank.

He sells all the T shirts he wins

As others have said, he will get paid handsomely by Google for views of his YouTube videos, which have grown in popularity massively. He now has 3.82m subscribers and gets up to 5m views per video, albeit that number seems to fluctuate a bit depending on the specific challenge he’s doing. That’s really elite tier level among YouTubers. You can see in his videos that he now flies in business class when going to North America and all of his travel, hotels, car hire, cost for nutritionist advice etc. will be able to be offset against his income for tax purposes. He is just very good at what he does and IMO he completely deserves the success he gets. A guy who used to work for me is best mates with him (they went through school together) and he always said that Beard recognises that he can’t do what he does forever but that he is also picking up and developing numerous other skills along the way - such as filming, video editing, drone work etc. - that have income potential for once he reaches the ‘retirement’ stage. Shows to me he’s actually a very savvy guy and is incredibly bright. It’s a real shame that his relationship broke down recently but again it probably partly highlights how driven he is and also the sacrifices he has had to make to be successful, such as being away from home for long periods of time.

is this written by AI? also, what do you mean his relationship broke down? are him and lindsay not together anymore?

They split up just after Christmas

fuuuuck i had no idea

I saw her dating profile on Facebook dating and reported as a false profile, coz I thought someone was using her pics to catfish.

Weirdly enough, the next profile I saw was his sister

Before Christmas. They were not together then. Even their IG pics show that.

2 words, tax write-off, ( I gess 3 words) if he claims the tracking as a business expense it's MORE affordable for him to do it then not

I remember years ago he said he used to as an investment banker, I believe. I would imagine he built up enough money to start up a Youtube channel and know exactly how to manage his money sensibly.

He used to work for a stockbroker at the Halifax bank. I don't think he was actually an investment banker.

He’s an international gigalo and very much in demand for his bearded specials

I would expect most of it is ad revenue from YouTube.

Place by me wanted to get him to do a food challenge, he wanted a £500 attendance fee.

That’s cheap bro. With his following getting your store/business advertised by him for 500 quid is basically free. Other people with a smaller following are being paid 60-80k for a single Instagram post.

u/gajak44 avatar

Nah that’s often not to earn money but to assess seriousness of the business of doing this challenge. A filtering mechanism if you will. He must be getting tons of such requests.

I know a YouTuber and he says he makes at least 5k per million views, also makes a good earning from merchandise

Look at me - I can eat a lot of food. Lot of skill there. 😂💀

Not so much skill but willpower. Eating that much must take a lot of effort to finish off such large portions. Let alone digest it. His colon must take some punishment. I know I couldn’t do it.

I would also assume, his stomach has been stretched to abnormal proportions

He does have ads on, I'm guessing you use an ad blocker.

u/AncientCivilServant avatar

I pay for YouTube Premium so I don't see any ads.

He does have ads on his video, just as far as I can remember there’s no mid roll ads. He also has a cameo account, although from what I recall he has said it’s set to the lowest amount he can set it to.

u/Vast_Criticism5083 avatar

Beard has other social medial platforms not just You Tube, that generates money plus doesn't he own a YT Patreon that fans can join via a membership?

Perhaps he is also sponsored too?

u/Fuzzy-Diver-2334 avatar

Adam no doubt is comfortable but he needs to keep the ship moving or it’ll soon ground. Constantly innovating. Always improving. He’s an amazing producer and creative. Very watchable these days. Lost the slight tinge of arrogance in his early days.

PS - re: writing profits off to lower tax - why do you think he drives a Tesla!?

This isn’t easy though. Lots to do. Lots of planning. Age isn’t on his side. But he’s not done for a long time yet.
