The pair lifted the Glitter Ball Trophy, beating the three other finalists Susanna Reid, Natalie Gumede and Sophie Ellis-Bextor in a spectacular final show.

27-year-old Abbey began the series with no formal dance training, and became a firm favourite as her confidence on the dance floor grew. On winning she said: "I can't believe this; it's just mad!" calling Strictly "the most perfect experience I've had".

Abbey and Aljaz wowed the judges and audience on the night of the final with three amazing routines - a Waltz to ‘Kissing You’ by Des’ree, a Showdance to Guns 'N' Roses’ ‘Sweet Child O' Mine’ and their Quickstep to ‘Walking on Sunshine’ by Katrina and the Waves.

Judge Bruno Tonioli described the Quickstep as "absolutely dazzling in its brilliance", while Len Goodman called her "a spectacular dancer" with "wonderful posture".
