So what happened to Greg K?
I pretty much stayed in the dark about everything Offspring for a while and read on wikipedia about the whole Greg situation.
Honestly shocked me, 35 years in a band and they sort of cut him off? He wasn't really a mediatic person, but as a fellow bassist I always had a sort of appreciation for the guy. Was there any sort of clarification/leak on what happened or where is he now?

Q&A
I've been wondering this myself. Like you said, Greg was always the least known and outspoken of the band but he was always there.
Was all about COVID : his antivaxx beliefs, hi didnt want take controls or anything... So the band didnt want work with him anymore ... Later came the money problem

Greg played the bass, not the drums
Greg was fired before COVID

What an odd situation.
Obviously this is an old thread, but I just have to say I find it funny that Noodles, who wasn't even a founding member of the band is allegedly an owner but it's alleged that Greg K. isn't. Given how many drummers they've been through I'd say I believe Greg K and I won't be listening to The Offspring again.
To be fair noodles was there before they were called the offspring or even released an album
This is long but for anyone unfamiliar with business law I can explain a lot of the stuff known to fans
Based on the court filings, it seems like what is unfolding is a pretty common problem that arises in Partnership Law/Business Orgs. It all gets a little technical, but to make it easy and simple we can just say that partnerships in general involve evenly splitting all of the profits, and it doesn’t really matter who contributes most of the actual work. Of course you can have other special business entities and agreements and such, but in general partnerships are even amongst all partners, and you two partners can’t kick out a third partner. So as to why he left or was kicked out...who knows? But If it really is just a standard general partnership then the crux of the problem is that Greg still wants his even 1/3 split, whereas the other guys realize it doesn’t make sense to continue paying him forever even if he doesn’t do anything for them anymore, so they’d rather just buy out his ownership amount.
Greg’s initial lawsuit alleges D&N conspired to kick him out of the band without fair compensation, and makes some individual points about what types of compensation Greg is owed. It specifically mentions that D&N are “denying the rights of [Greg] as an equal partner”. The counter suit filed by D&N’s lawyers basically just denies a lot of the individual points, states there was no conspiracy, and requests the court to appoint appraisers to value Greg’s ownership status. (Presumably to buy him out).
This is where everything turns to speculation. Why? Who knows? It’s possible that Greg wanted to retire, and since he’s been in the band from the beginning he wanted to continue getting paid from this IP that he’s helped create, but then realized that D&N had set up a business organization that didn’t include him in that capacity. It’s also possible that they wanted to kick him out for some other reason, which then led to the same thing- a fight over ownership status. It’s unclear to me when this business organization was created and to what extent Greg was included. I’m sure some of that info is public somewhere, but I’ve never seen it here. We really don’t know who did what and in what order.
So the one thing I can say with certainty is that it doesn’t make sense as a fan to be blaming one person or another, because there is zero way to know which person really caused all of this. And given they’ve said very little about it publicly it seems as though they are preferring to keep it in house. Which is helpful legally while also meaning the fans won’t turn on any of them.
In relation to a new album, it seems likely that part of the hold up is that Greg recorded parts for it and the band either doesn’t want to or can’t release it until they come to an agreement on ownership. Which would then be further delayed because most courts are pushing back everything months and months due to the pandemic.
Nice one, thanks for taking the time to write this out. I’m not familiar with American court/law terminology so it was hard to make something out of the suit.
Unfortunately it’s unlikely we’ll find out exactly what happened, but as with most things in life, I’d guess the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
What a shame! I had been wondering what happened as well. If I had to pick a side (knowing only the details posted here) I’d go with Greg. The man IS the band, been there since day one, longer than Noodles. Unless it was written specifically, Greg is every bit as important as Noodles.
I'd pick him too. Founding member, and was a friend of Dexter's since high school. The new stuff with out him is so much weaker sounding. Especially the live shows.
I forgot where it is, but you can read the whole legal brief somewhere; it was posted here in the past
Happy cake day ‼ Ice cream for your cake! 🎉🍧🍨🍦
Last thing I heard, is that they sued each other about Greg missing out some fair payments for being out of the band, but I don´t know what happened to it!
This whole situation is just petty bullshit for a punk band. Come on guys, you're really gonna kick the guy out just cause he wants the money he thinks he's entitled to? Come on Greg, you're really going to throw 35 years away just cause you can't have a little extra money?
I personally believe Dexter and Noodles over Greg. After being a founding member with Dexter, in 2018, he left the band then tried to sue Dexter and Noodles that they tried to create a scheme to force him to leave the band. He was later replaced by Todd Morse who they will be recording the new album with.
Lawyers...corporations...business agreements. I love the offspring's music, but the punk attitude died decades ago. Sorry...not sorry, I just became the punk police haha!
