Herbert Wise Browar, former VP of production for Filmways Television and associate producer for shows including “The Addams Family,” died May 19 of a cerebral hemorrhage at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif. He was 83.

Browar started at Filmways in 1960 and served as VP from 1963-73. While there, he was involved in the production of “The Addams Family,” as well as “The Beverly Hillbillies,” “Petticoat Junction,” “Green Acres” and “Ozzie’s Girls.”

Browar began his career as a stage manager on the first 39 episodes of “I Love Lucy.” He was inducted into the Producers Guild’s Hall of Fame in 1992 for this achievement.

Prior to Filmways, he was a TV production exec with Al Simon Prods. and George Burns Prods., where he was involved with such TV shows as “The George Burns Show,” “People’s Choice Awards,” “I Married Joan” and “Mr. Ed,” for which he served as associate producer.

A graduate of Carnegie-Mellon U., Browar served as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during WWII.

He is survived by his son.
