Still the iconic building in taipei. The shopping mall boasts a wide array of luxury and non luxury brands. Also some restaurants and a food court and supermarket in the basement

Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) was a Chinese politician, revolutionary and military leader. He was known as the Generalissimo in the civil war against the Chinese Communist Party. In 1949, he and the Kuomintang retreated to Taiwan where the Generalisimo led steadfast opposition to the Chinese regime in Beijing. The Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall has a massive bronze statue of Chiang; the regular changing of the guard is impressive.

I went at noon. There is so much stuff in this place that takes up 3 floors. I'm not sure how anyone can finish this in a couple hours unless they're just rushing past everything. I took my time and when the museum closed at 5pm, I had only finished 2 floors! I had to come back the next day at 2pm to see the floor I missed, and I finished it with a half hour before closing - enough time to check out the gift shop. If only I had shown up at 9am on the first day, then I would have finished it all in one day and wouldn't have had to pay admission twice.

This is a popular hiking trail that leads up to the peak of the mountain, 183 metres high. The most popular starting point seems to be just to the south of Xiangshan Park or you can start from Yongchungang Park. The former is steeper, shorter and only takes about 20 minutes, but both provide a good workout. I actually climbed from Xiangshan Park, then climbed down to Yongchungang Park, which took about an hour and made the hike worthwhile.

The views at the top are excellent. You'll get views of Taipei 101.

Did a spectacular tour with Island Life Taiwan throughout Taroko Gorge. It is breathtaking! We never would have seen half of what we saw doing it ourselves, as there are traffic/construction stops that need to be timed perfectly. We enjoyed fantastic authentic food, and the sites in the Gorge are so amazing that pictures don’t do it justice. A perfect day!

It must get really busy here - but it was lovely and quiet when we went. Get the metro to Taipei zoo and walk about 5-10 mins to the gondola station.

There are tickets machines outside and inside the building. It costs NT$120 per adult for a 1 way journey (approx £3). Like everything in Taiwan it's very clean and ordered.

There are clear bottom cable cars and normal ones - there are queue lines are marked for either. We got straight into a cable cat and had it to ourselves. It's a 30 journey each way. The cable car is really quiet and smooth.

There's not much to see at the top as it's not at the top of the mountain but it's still worth going up for the views.

You can get the bus back down- much cheaper at NT$15 per person but we went down by cable car as there was quite a long wait - each bus stop has time tables in English.

If you are planning on going to the zoo afterwards, get off at the zoo south station (not the last terminal station) as you can buy a zoo ticket and then walk down the hill rather than up again!

    It's great!

It's an absolutely beautiful building and so worth a visit.

Come on MRT blue line and exit to Longshan - you won't miss the temple!

It's stunning to see - lots of people attending to pray and visitors taking photos. Offerings are being made, along with a big queue of people buying offerings.

    It's so worth a trip.

It certainly is a beautiful lake, but there’s not much to do besides appreciate it. Better for relaxing than adventure.

A very good zoo. School groups of all ages were there. Those with small children should be aware that the zoo is on a slope so you'll be pushing a stroller up a hill or stopping it from slowly getting away from you.

An impressive winding gorge with many worthwhile sightseeing stops. You can visit the gorge on a day tour (for example from Taipei). However, it is much nicer to combine the tour with an overnight stay at Silks Place at the end of the gorge. There is a bus that stops at all the tourist hotspots (hop on hop off), but you lose a lot of time. We traveled with our own rental car and found this to be the best option. The only disadvantage is that it was sometimes difficult to find a parking space at the sights. Alternatively, I would recommend a private tour with a driver, then you don't have to look for a parking space. The front part of the gorge (at the entrance to the gorge) is rather boring, the interesting sights are at the back. If you are only here on a day trip, you should drive to the end of the gorge first and start your sightseeing tour from there. You will need more time than you think to see the entire gorge. The Taroko Gorge was one of the highlights of our trip to Taiwan.

Amazing views in the sunset. Beautiful streets, full of tiny, traditional shops and food markets. A bit crowded, try to avoid saturday evenings. An interesting Temple worth visiting too.

This park was included in our packaged tour with an entrance fee of 120 NTD. It has magnificent coastal views and several iconic rock formations such as the Queen's head, cute princess, and fairy slipper. There is an area of food stalls selling some treats (some offering free samples) and a few nearby seafood restaurants.

It was a bit crowded during our weekday visit, and it is quite worrying that some of the rock formations are being touched by the tourists. Maybe the park should not allow guests to touch the rocks as it might hasten its erosion?
