      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

An ineptly staged farce that dishonors the original film and squanders the comedic potential of its fine actors.

David Elliott San Diego Reader A few tart, amusing lines echo the fabled Kind Hearts and Coronets, yet this British movie based on a French farce falls into morbid silliness. Rated: 2/5 Nov 14, 2016 Full Review Steven Rea Philadelphia Inquirer The film has to fly by its wits -- and its witty lines -- and by the charm of its stars. This it does, just barely. Rated: 2.5/4 Nov 18, 2010 Full Review Michael O'Sullivan Washington Post It's never a good idea to cast Bill Nighy as a buttoned-down hit man. Rated: 1.5/4 Nov 12, 2010 Full Review Christian Toto What Would Toto Watch? Two delightful stars nudge Wild Target into sleeper territory - but only by a few inches. Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 12, 2011 Full Review Andreas Heinemann Flicks (AU, NZ, UK) ...mindless entertainment in a refined style. Rated: 3/5 Feb 3, 2011 Full Review Stephen Saito IFC.com "Wild Target" bears all the hallmarks of [director Jonathan] Lynn's best films, despite being, even at a tidy 90 minutes, a bit too long. Blu B It's interesting and there is a lot of potential here but for the following reasons it's held back. The cinematography is just ok. Nothing is really shot memorable, the locations aren't that memorable, and it has quite a bit of farfetched scenes in it at times. Aside from that everything else is half decent about it. The music at first is kind of awesome but for some werid reason as this goes on it uses less and less of it and when it does it uses more generic tracks that are very forgettable and just blend in. Than it doesn't use it enough in the second half on top of that. The main character is very wooden, stock, and kind of forgettable despite being the main focus. Grint...honestly he;s ok but I don't really know why he's here. If you take him out there really isn't anything lost. The villians are forgettable also. Blunt isn't bad and is probably the best thing in this. The jokes are very hit or miss. Sometimes they get a good laugh out of nowhere with the quirky british humor and other times I'm scratching my head. This also has a weird tone problem at times. It's a comedy while also a screwball Rom Com with a heist thriller element to it but it never makes it work in a cohesive way tone wise. The story makes perfect sense and is a clever setup (though fafetched at certain points) but it tries at points to be a bit too dark and played not even too straight but too emotionless at times save for Blunt who gets the most laughs. This needed to be a bit more light hearted and bubbly with it's humor, stay focused on the two main leads, and have less farfetched/dumb scenes in it. There is quite a bit of potential here that works more than it fails. A testament to the strength of the underlying idea. But for the most part this is something that really only fans of any actors in this or someone who wants something really quirky and out of left field. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/30/24 Full Review E4123 It's unfunny, unmeaningful, and will leave you just as confused at the end as at the beginning. How it managed to score its talented cast is beyond me. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Michael C This movie is not good at all, but I loved watching it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Mark B It should have been good. I was looking at my watch most of the time. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/11/23 Full Review Cork B It's cute and has that kind of offbeat English humor. Decently acted and shot, it is worth a watch. I am not sure why the ginger from Harry Potter is in this - the character seems extraneous, and the movie does veer off into silliness. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Nelo F Ich mag diesen Film sehr. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
