About the writing - well structured and articulated. Must’ve been a task to condense the journey of 20+ whirlwind years into a 250 page book. 1-2 chapters maybe a bit too technical for non shooters but it definitely drives home the point about the precision required in this sport.
About the story - well, words fall short. It’s a definitely a must read for not just every sportsman, but for anyone trying to do anything great or different in life. Abhinav Bindra has really open end his heart and shared all his good experiences and his vulnerabilities.

Abhinav Bindra’s journey to become the first Indian to win an individual Olympic gold and the first Indian to win a World Championship gold in shooting, is an example of a single-minded quest for perfection. Shattered by his failure at the 2004 Athens Olympics when a gold medal seemed imminent, he changed as a shooter: he became an athlete bent on redemption, a scientist who would try anything to win at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. His victory was not just a personal one, it broke a sporting barrier that had haunted a nation for a century. This revised edition brings the story up to date, including what happened at the Rio Olympics in 2016, where he narrowly missed being among the medals. Bindra also reveals, for the first time, how he started to suffer from epileptic seizures while in the middle of preparing for Rio and how he overcame this hurdle. Closely involved in telling this remarkable story is sportswriter Rohit Brijnath, who gets into Bindra's mind to help produce one of the finest autobiographies written yet of an Indian sportsman.

Had heard about the book, but decided to read it when the legend Rahul Dravid wrote about how this book, by an athlete much younger than him, inspired him so much that it helped him to do more, at a time when he was considering retirement. Wow!
True to what I expected, the journey of Abhinav Bindra must be learned, most be studied in detail, just like he studied his sport and himself in detail. To what extent he went, to gain that minute little more, is amazing to know. This is peak of introspection and self realization.
This also tells us that it is not only the 'rags to riches' success stories that are inspiring. That rich doesn't necessarily mean spoilt. That a comfortable childhood doesn't necessarily groom a softer athlete, or person. It is all about passion, realization. And in a way, I felt, that the lack of a 'need' to be a better athlete and perform well to support your family, is sometimes a disadvantage in a life of sports.
Very well written, this story delves deep into the finer details of a sport unknown to many, a lesser glamorous, lesser followed sport of technicalities and mind games. And also into the thoughts of Abhinav Bindra, a self conquered introvert, who is in fact ready by all means to shout out whatever he has learnt, to inspire one more shooter, to shoot for India. What a journey, sir. Thank you for this.

Performance on the day is everything - it could be a sporting performance, an examination, an interview.
Repetition is the mother of excellence as Abhinav Bindra says.
This is a great book for anyone who wishes to maximise himself in his chosen field.
Thanks for detailing your journey to the Olympic Gold and your courage in overcoming the disappointment at Athens due to the loose tile, Abhinav Bindra. You can take India to great heights in sports if you choose to play a more active role in sports administration and planning.

A MUST READ for athletes.

As a former marksman of the Brazilian Rifle Team, I had the opportunity to compete and see Abhinav Bindra performing in his path of his goal. Good history for athletes, coaches, mentors and sports fans if they are interested in such kind of sport drama and a MUST READ for Olympic shooters that can feel through this book how hard was this journey to Olympíc Gold, mainly because the issues related to the lack of official and cultural structure of shooting sport in India, witch is very similar to Brazilian and very different from US, China, Russia and european contries where Olympic sport is a big tradition. The gold medal he won at Beijing Olympics 2008 gave him a "free pass to sincerity" to write down all of his strenghts and weaknesses

A totally inspiring read for every new or experienced shooter
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 October 2014Verified Purchase
In coming back into shooting this book was recommended by my coach. It is all inspiring, a true insight to the dedication required to reach your dream goal. Written in a way that both the young and not so young can take inspiration from it. You will question at the end whether you can both commit the time to reaching greatness, spend the time fighting against the governing bodies that are apparently there for you, and acceptance that life doesn't always deliver what you think it should on the day when you feel you have covered all bases. I hope it inspires many more people to take up the sport and rise to the challenge of achieving Olympic gold. Thank you Abhinav.

but he is trained by the best and that is why he is where he is

It takes time to read this, but that is because you are trying to understand him as much as his process.
I spoke to him at the Korean World Cup and gave him my personal review back in 2015.
He asked me if it was too much.
I told him, "No, it is who you are."
Not sure there is another person who would go as far as he did, but he is trained by the best and that is why he is where he is.
