Abe's cool, and it's nice to see him honored. This sculpture has him standing with his umbrella, as if he just arrived in town.

An awesome tribute to Abe Lincoln, who visited our town regularly. A big thank you to the folks responsible in getting the statute in place.

One of many Lincoln statues throughout Illinois -- but this one is unique with its representation of Lincoln as he looks after just arriving by train. The trademark hat, but he's stretching his back and glad to be here in Hillsboro.

An ok statue of Abe Lincoln, The statue faces into the small plaza, not at the roundabout so people can see it as they drive by. It's nice, but it is not worth a special stop to see it.

Town square uses it for holiday decoration, stage is available during festivals, close restaurants and small shops which specialize in "vintage clothing," Also close to the town's indoor movie theatre, where your ticket purchase includes popcorn and a drink.

Our statue here adds to the Lincoln Trail and depicts Hillsboro's place in the life of Lincoln. Much thanks to Kathy Dagon, Roy Hertel, and Nancy Slepicka for all their work to make this statue a reality.

John McClarey, award-winning sculptor and historian, says the Hillsboro statue showcases Lincoln’s wide interest in entertainment and theater, an aspect of Lincoln’s character not seen in other public works.

The nearly 7-foot tall bronze statue depicts Lincoln in his mid-30’s, wearing a top hat and coat. “He has just arrived in town, having put down his travel bag and umbrella, and he’s leaning back slightly to get the kinks out of his back from the long buggy ride from Springfield,” McClarey describes.

Standing at ground level on the north side of the plaza, Lincoln will be looking towards the plaza stage and at a posted advertisement of the 1858 Hillsboro circus, or some other historical or current event. “His smile suggests a gleeful expectation of the event,” the sculptor says.

The masonry work was really beautiful. we drove around the around the town, many of the homes had stunning brickwork, and the high school was amazing! We weren't there really long enough to see much else.
