Diving into the Life of President James Garfield

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Library System is inviting the community to come and learn more about the 20th President of the United States.

The Ohio Presidents: James Garfield program will take place this Wednesday, May 15th at 5:30 in the Auditorium of the John McIntire Library.

This program is being hosted in conjunction with Muskingum County History. Sean Fennell, the Marketing and Community Relations Director with the MCLS, said this partnership fits perfectly with what they try to do at the library.

“One of the things we like to do at the library is connect people with information and a lot of that information is history,” Fennell said. “Because Ohio has just an incredible history, not only in general but also Ohio has 7 Presidents, I believe that have come from Ohio, second only to Virginia I believe with 8. It is a really big deal that Ohio has had so many presidents come from this state so we wanted to celebrate that and get some people some information as well.”

Fennell says there will also be local author CW Goodyear to talk about the new book he just published, “President Garfield: From Radical to Unifier”.

He says this is an opportunity for the community to learn about the author’s thought process in writing this book as well as some history facts.

“You will be able to take away not only some insights into the thoughts of a writer but also take away a lot of information about James Garfield,” Fennell said. “And maybe learn about a new book you might be interested in reading as well.”

If you are interested in reading “President Garfield: From Radical to Unifier” it is available at all library locations or electronically through the Libby app with your library card.

If you are interested in attending the Ohio Presidents: James Garfield program, you can head to the library’s website to register.
