The Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School Digital Archives

Welcome to The Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School's archives

The archives of the school are wide-ranging and varied. They include items such as correspondence, minutes of meetings, annual reports, form lists, photographs, in-house publications, posters and programmes among other things. Most records held in the archive date from after the school’s reconstitution in 1873 up to present day. The records are in the process of being catalogued and will hopefully be available to search online in the future.

The school magazine ‘Skylark’ – one of our most used records – has been digitised from 1903-1919 and is available to search on this site. You will also find other digitised archive material such as material from the school’s First World War display that commemorated the Centenary in November 2018.

As funding becomes available we hope to digitise more of the school’s records to illustrate the types of material held in the archive and provide a starting place for your research.

Research and Enquiries

The archives are kept at the school and can be consulted by appointment. Please send any enquiries to the archivist. Enquiries are answered as promptly as possible, but as we receive many enquiries, it may take time to carry out research and we may have to limit the time spent on a request.

Please note that administrative records are generally closed; the Archivist will advise readers wishing to see records relating to boys.

Our Habs Archive Catalogue is now online and can be found here. This is an online searchable database that comprises information about the records from both the Boys’ and Girls’ School Archives. The archives of the Haberdashers’ Schools are wide-ranging and varied. They include items such as correspondence, minutes of meetings, annual reports, form lists, photographs, in-house publications, posters and programmes among other things. This catalogue provides a description of the records that we hold; it does not include the full text of documents or digital images of records, so it is not possible, for example, to search a form list online. We are continually adding more catalogue records, so please return to this site in future.

Donations

The School Archive is delighted to accept donations of relevant material that increase the richness of the collections, such as diaries, correspondence and photographs. Should you wish to donate any items relating to your or a relative’s time at Haberdashers Aske’s Boys School, please do contact the archivist.
