Terminal de Windows reemplaza el prompt de comando en Windows 11.

Microsoft is considering replacing the old Command Prompt on Windows 11 with Windows Terminal, as the default solution for running command line operations. The update is expected to be enabled on the operating system starting in 2022, first for Windows Insider Program users, and then for everyone with the roll-out in the stable channel.

The news was teased by Microsoft itself, highlighting it as a revolution within the Windows environments. Windows Console Host has been the default command line operation application on Windows since the inception of the operating system: «We are planning to make Windows Terminal the default experience on Windows 11 devices», wrote Kayla Cinnamon, Microsoft’s Program Manager. «We will start with the Windows Insider Program, and then move across development channels until we reach all Windows 11 devices with the new feature».

Windows Terminal to replace Command Prompt and be default on Windows 11

Windows Terminal was unveiled in 2019 as a more advanced solution than Windows Console Host, for example, compatible with a more complete rendering engine with hardware acceleration support via DirectX. Additionally, the new app can be used to access all command line applications and can be used to enter commands for Linux. Windows Terminal implements support for tabs, transparency effects, split panels for using multiple command lines in a single window, and various customization possibilities.

Currently, Windows 11 users can already choose Windows Terminal as the default solution, however, with the expected change in 2022, every time users start the Command Prompt, they will access the new solution.
