This new experience for me has been great so far! Everyone has been so kind and helpful, made lots of friends and joined several organizations since my stay, class room size is just the right fit for me, God has blessed me with a new family! Everything seem to be in walking distance and safe, church is a great location for me as well; we have a lot of activities here on the campus and cost effective that I can still feel that I can afford, one of the most thing that I needed was accommodation because I experience ADHD and speech impairment issues, Kentucky State have the accommodations that I need to succeed! They also offer one on one therapy, or group therapy , call me in to make sure I’m taking my medication; check and make sure I’m doing okay! Even dealing with Financial Aid ; always polite and trying to make sure they can accommodate me any way possible! I’m looking forward to being here for awhile, Some of the alumni graduated from here stayed and became employees of the school .
I was enrolled here majoring in Criminal Justice. My experience here was great! The staff, students, and wonderful people I've met here helped me prepare for the real world after college. This school being the only HBCU in Kentucky, makes me feel proud to be an Alum of the Kstate community.
I love my HBCU! However, there are some things that MUST be fixed. The environment and welcoming energy of the student body is amazing, We aim to make students feel comfortable and at home on campus. But the actual physical environment is NOT up to par. I have allergic reactions to the mold in our dorms (which clearly have carpet that has not been replaced). There are roaches and other insects that should not be in a living space for students. I am not by any means completely blaming my illustrious school faculty, but I am concerned about the physical health of myself and my peers.
The staff are not very good at getting back to you on time and that makes for a low success rate for our students. This also does not help with retention rates of KYSU. I would love to see my KYSU flourish and grow to the highest levels.I believe that our new president will aid in the betterment of our school as he has done in the past with BCTC. I am so grateful for Dr. Akakpo has chosen to help.
