Bruce Springsteen: un omaggio a Shane MacGowan
Dopo aver esordito a Cardiff lo scorso 5 maggio (leggi qui) prosegue il tour europeo di Bruce Springsteen che è atteso allo stadio San Siro di Milano l’1 e 3 giugno.
Ieri sera il musicista americano si è esibito nella prima delle tre date irlandesi salendo sul palco del Nowlan Park a Kilkenny (nel sud est del paese), dopo la data di Belfast in Nord irlanda. Seguiranno i live di Cork (16 maggio) e Dublino (19 maggio).
Per l’occasione Bruce ha aperto il concerto con un ricordo tributo a Shane MacGowan e i Pogues eseguendo, in compagnia della E Street Band una sua versione di “Rainy Night in Soho“
Il brano, scritto da Shane, è stato pubblicato nel 1986 nell’EP “Poguetry in Motion” (prodotto da Elvis Costello) ed è contenuto anche nella riedizione del 2004 dell’album “Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash” in origine uscito nel 1985 (anch’esso realizzato con la collaborazione di Costello).
Con questa esecuzione Springsteen ha reso omaggio al frontman e autore dei Pogues Shane MacGowan scomparso il 30 novembre 2023 a Dublino, all'età di 65 anni.
La serata irlandese si è aperta con una versione di “This Hard Land” (eseguita l’ultima volta live nel 2018 e un debutto in questo tour), eseguita alle 17:05 di fronte a un numero limitato di spettatori, possessori dei biglietti ”early birds”.
