Editorial Reviews

Two distinctive sides of blues guitarist-vocalist Ellen McIlwaine are showcased on this CD reissue of a pair of albums.

The Real Ellen McIlwaine (1975) finds the Tennessee expat teaming with members of Quebec's popular Ville Emard Blues Band for an inspired set of covers by John Lee Hooker (Crawling Kingsnake), Stevie Wonder (Higher Ground), and Tracy Nelson (Down So Low), as well as a handful of originals.

On Everybody Needs It (1982), McIlwaine hooks up with legendary blues-rock bass player Jack Bruce (Bluesbreakers, Cream) for what is widely considered her signature album.
