Former pupils at Harrow County Girls’ School reunite after 50 years

In a special 50-year reunion, 26 women from the 1966 intake of Harrow County Girls’ School gathered for a long-awaited reunion at the Woodman in Pinner on Saturday, October 14.

Organised by former pupils Gopa Ray, Penny King, and Coralie Green, the event brought together classmates who hadn’t seen each other since their school days in 1973.

Many attendees, primarily from the ‘C form’at the school in Harrow, embarked on a journey of nostalgia, sharing stories and catching up on their lives. The reunion required considerable detective work as former classmates had scattered worldwide, changed surnames, making tracking down old friends a challenging yet rewarding experience for all involved.

The atmosphere was filled with laughter and nostalgia as the women enjoyed a buffet-style lunch, allowing them to freely move around and reconnect with as many ex-classmates as possible.

A rotating screen showcased contributed photos, prompting shared memories and heartfelt laughter. The room was adorned with memorabilia, triggering both amusement and sentimentality.

Fellow organiser Penny King devised a witty “Remember When” quiz, sparking hilarity as attendees attempted to recall teachers’ names and details of the school uniform, some of which had faded in memory over the decades. The jovial quiz had some questioning if they had attended the same school!

As conversations flowed, attendees exchanged details about their families, careers, and retirement plans, creating a sense of continuity and shared experiences. Despite the passage of time, the bond among the women remained strong.
