      Critics Consensus

Man of Steel's exhilarating action and spectacle can't fully overcome its detours into generic blockbuster territory.

Jason Bailey Flavorwire Snyder is an adrenaline junkie forever jonesing for a fix; he does less building to the action beats than backing each one into the next. Jun 21, 2016 Full Review Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com Clark's multiple father-and-son tales are beautifully realized and it's a very fun movie to watch. However, the romance is shallow. Rated: B+ Apr 23, 2015 Full Review Matt Singer The Dissolve A gritty, realistic story shot by a director whose instincts constantly push him away from grit and realism, and into flash and fantasy. Rated: 2/5 Jun 26, 2014 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh While it might set itself apart from many superhero movies that came before it, it seems to do so arbitrarily as opposed to exploring those ideas in any organic way. Rated: 2/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) Man of Steel was Snyder’s triumphant debut with Superman, and it’s still a thrilling example of why Clark Kent can be an engaging lead for one of these movies despite the speculation for the opposite. Jun 16, 2023 Full Review Anna M.M. Vetticad annavetticadgoes2themovies Man of Steel is fun and makes a lot of sense a lot of the time but is also dull and senseless some of the time. when y I have watched tons of superhero movies, and I can say, without a doubt, Man of Eteel is by far the worst. They skirt around superman's name, only referencing once when Lois Lane dismisses Clark's culture rudely and abruptly, and the movie feels like it hops from scene to scene without care for how they got there. How did Clark join Lois on the trip to the arctic? How did they get from the interrogation room to the middle of the desert? This feels like a 3 part episode series of a tvshow that was half-assed when it came to connecting the 3 parts. The fights felt like they had no choreography, and you could barely see anything. A school fight has better camera work than these fights. Most hits just felt light, the Kryptons can throw vans with ease but when they punch someone it's like smacking them with a pillow. Every death had no meaning because they either came back to life or their death was off camera. Speaking of, superman crashed that ship into the rubble of metropolis, undoubtedly killing people, and we are expected to believe that everything comes out hunky dory? People died, a lot of people. One critic I like said that it was like 9/11 imagery, and I couldn't agree more. The planes crashing into buildings, etc etc. Also, why didn't the military fire their missiles when the gravity was going up? Why did the gravity always pull down? The gravity pushed and pulled, but with the missiles it always pulled them down onto innocent people. The town that Superman tells people to hide in during the 2v1 gets Swiss cheesed and for some reason every building that gets trashed is empty, except for the 2 people at IHOP. I could tell when the chick said "Evolution always wins" the writer was trying to make a memorable line, but it just felt stupid. That's all. Bad movie, watch Marvel instead. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/01/24 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed this movie very much Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/25/24 Full Review Finnegan O This is objectively not a good movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/23/24 Full Review Ciaran S With a cheesy story, unoriginal script and wooden acting despite the decent CGI effects this movie is why Superman is the least interesting superhero character ever. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/15/24 Full Review N. T The ONLY man of steel I want to see! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Petaia S Loved it, from storyline to action scenes it was beautiful. Cinematography is next level🔥🔥🔥 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews
