It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
For many hardcore Harry Potter fans, seven books and eight films were simply not enough. After the conclusion of The Deathly Hallows, a lot of readers were left with Post Potter Depression. But muggles need not suffer any more thanks to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in London, which picks up where the last book’s epilogue left off: 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts in the Second Wizarding War. The continuation of the beloved story, in the form of a stage play, paints a story of the next generation of Harry Potter characters and makes fans out of a whole new generation of young readers.

A Magical Adventure
It’s no secret that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in London has been an overwhelming critical success. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child cast its spell on critics and theatregoers when it opened in summer 2016 and it continues to leave fans mesmerised to this day, with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child tickets being in extremely high demand. There truly is magic in every moment in the eighth instalment of the Wizarding World.
The London production of the show is renowned for holding the theatre record for the most awarded West End play in Olivier Award history, winning a total of nine Laurence Olivier Awards in 2017 out of 11 nominations, including Best New Play, Best Director (John Tiffany), Best Actor (Jamie Parker as The Boy Who Lived), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Noma Dumezweni as Hermione Granger), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Anthony Boyle as Scorpius Malfoy), and many more.
Additionally, the West End production has raked in the 2016 Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play, Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards for Best Director, Best Designer, and Most Promising Newcomer, and 10 WhatsOnStage Awards. Meanwhile, the Broadway production has won six Tony Awards and was nominated for Best Musical Theater Album at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
It’s Worth The Acclaim
- Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, The Cursed Child offers a different way to experience the wizarding world, as it was originally intended for the stage.
- When performed on stage, The Cursed Child utilises incredible spells and enchantments, which will be some of the most mind-blowing special effects and magic you have ever seen performed on the stage. There’s nothing else quite like it.
- Have you ever wondered what would happen if certain events from the original series took a different course? The Cursed Child explores exactly that.
- In a true time-warped fashion, The Cursed Child is designed to be experienced in two parts. Which means double the magic, double the madness.
- We learn more about all of the original beloved characters, Harry, for example, has some peculiar fears…oh, and the Trolley Witch is absolutely terrifying.

8 magical Harry Potter facts that you probably didn’t know

We’ve marvelled at hippogriffs, had nightmares caused by the forbidden forest, and cried for big friendly groundskeepers. Now the iconic stage production Harry Potter and The Cursed Child has become as much of a staple as a butter beer on a snowy Hogsmeades day. Just like the world of Harry Potter itself, these magical facts are steeped in a world of imagination!
