Via Veneto is famous because of a movie made nearly 60 years ago. You haven’t seen it and neither has anyone else!
La Dolce Vita is long gone for both Rome and Via Veneto. You shouldn’t go jump in Trevi Fountain (or rent a scooter), and you should not waste time on Via Veneto unless you are on the way to the U.S. Embassy at 830 am to replace your stolen passport (didn’t someone warn you about pickpockets?) or passing through to go to Borghese Park.
There are much more interesting and scenic streets in Rome, like anywhere in the center (via tritone/via del corso if you want crowded high end shopping) or across the river in Trastevere (especially for eating) or Prati (eating and shopping).
There is no window shopping here, and the famous restaurants are gone (rumors of mafia money laundering shut a couple down in recent years). You can pay 19 Euros for a beer if you want at one if the hotel terraces, or you can pay twice the going rate for gelato instead of just walking to (two places nearby I can’t write here because TripAdvisor blocks it.) There are some good to great/fantastic places within 5-10 minutes of this street in several directions, just not on it.
(A famous incredibly expensive bar I can’t name here) *is* on this street. The only people who go there are people with expense accounts, tourists who don’t know any better, and people who like to overpay to be “seen.” There is zero reason to go there with your own money. Is it nice? Of course it is (it better be!), but there are better places for less money in all directions.
Most of the street now is high end hotels and a lot of VIP delegations use them. It’s a fine place to stay when visiting Rome. It would be better if, say, they fixed the three closest subway stops, which as of June 2019 have been out of service for months due to escalator collapses (google it).
If you are out late, stay away from the creepy old guys who will try to hustle you into one of the strip clubs/“piano bars”. More than a few senior government officials have been sacked for going to those places and running up huge (often they later claim fraudulent) bills. Those friendly well dressed women sitting in the chairs outside after the restaurants have closed — no, sorry, you aren’t that good looking, they are high end... practitioners of a very old occupation....
Note that a lot of positive reviews on this street come from tourists who are regurgitating what they read in the guidebooks, and all the 1 star reviews are from Iocals.

Why not spend at least 1 hour here on the Via Veneto ?
Frankly, it's another road to Rome, to enjoy it is advisable to follow it the night simply for the fact that the atmosphere is magical and vibrant.
If you are looking for some good restaurants at a good price this is the place, also many stores among which is pleasant to walk .
So spend a brief moment of your experience in Rome in Via Venezia is a must.

Beautiful street without the hustle and bustle of tourists. This is not a very long street but lots of expensive shops and gorgeous hotels. At the end, is the entrance to Villa Borghese Gardens. Beautiful and tranquil area in Rome.

Rome is a city of time. Pick your time to suit your activity. Via Veneto is definitely 20century and best in the 60s. Start from piazza Barberini beside the Bernini Triton heading up towards Villa Borghese.
Best to walk at dusk and let your mind meander to La Dolce Vita... some of the cafes are still there , even the Harrys bar from the movie (not a patch the real Harry's in Venice).
The movie was melancholy and tragic though most talk only about the helicopter opening or the trevi fountain - there is something of it left on the via and if you love Fellini and Mastroianni and are a romantic this can be a beautiful half hour of your life, if you are prepared to bring your imagination hand in hand as you dream up the street.

The country estates of wealthy Romans were carved up after Unification and transformed into elegant boulevards. One of them is Via Veneto that starts at the entrance to Villa Borghese (one of the most elegant parks in Europe) and ends at piazza Barberini. The street lined with plane trees and cafes, was once the symbol of Roman fashion and style and immortalized by Fellini's "La Dolce Vita". Today is filled with luxury hotels, embassies, offices, and numerous expensive restaurants, cafes that cater to a high-end tourists. Nice for a stroll.

The street and architecture on this street is very beautiful, but beware the cafes try to lure you in with specials, but the drinks are very over priced. We found even a small coke cost 8 euro.

A lot of tour books are down on this area saying its days are over, they are wrong. Plenty of outside cafes and wonderful hotels and the area is clean and safe. Recommend going to Villa Borghese and then stopping at the cabiria across from harry's and strolling down via Veneto to piazza barbarini station!

There are so many great things to see in Rome, this is not the most inspiring and avoid the restaurants in this area, you can get better food for much less money almost anywhere else. also the waiter in Ciao Bella may try to trick you into tipping twice (he tries to claim that service charge is in fact a tax!). Some upmarket hotels up here but lacking the charm of the less well heeled!

amazing little meandering road that comes from the Park and old wall all the way into the centre of Rome past a lot of 5 Star hotels...

Via Veneto is a fabulous street in north Rome filed with shops, cafes and ristorante's. Great place to hang out, drink some wine and people watch.

Tempio di Baco is areally good seafood and typical Italian restaurant. Food is tasty and fresh, waiting time is not long. They have a nice terrace on the street, which will be closed in Feb, I guess. address is: Via Lombardia 36/38

Hello,
I personally noticed only expensive restaurants on the Via Veneto. Cheaper options are to be found to the part of the area, which is to the opposite side of the city center.

Hi, I lived on Via Ludovisi, cool Street for a twenty years old, and for everyone else. The beautiful people and important cars impress everyone. Jazz can be heard from the clubs, carrozzelle- horse and buggies- carry the romantics , maybe to share a kiss in Villa Borghese. One imagines Audry Hepburn and Gregory Peck sharing a Vespa drive by. Can anyone add to this I lived a while back?
