2016 NFL Prospect Profile: Corey Coleman

Player Name:

Corey Coleman

School:

Baylor

Position:

Wide Receiver

Height/Weight:

5-11, 190 pounds

Scouting Report: Corey Coleman is one of the most explosive athletes in college football. He started as a redshirt freshman and was named second-team All-Big 12 conference as a sophomore. Coleman was the 2015 Biletnikoff Award winner which is given to the top college receiver. He was named first team All-Conference and a unanimous All-American.

Strengths: Corey Coleman has elite athleticism. He is able to accelerate at the snap and threaten defensive backs immediately. Coleman is a threat on vertical routes but can also do damage as a catch and go option. He has the ability to make the first defender miss and pick up huge chunks of yards. Coleman can also jump up and make the contested catch.

Coleman is not the biggest receiver, but he has the will to make the catch. That will makes smaller receivers such as Tyler Lockett, Brandon Cooks and Antonio Brown able to be effective when lining up outside. Many will mistakenly say Coleman is solely a slot receiver. That is not the case. He can win on the outside.

Improvement Opportunity: There will be those who question Coleman’s production because it happened in Baylor’s offense. They will also question his ability to run the full route tree. Route running is something that can be taught.

Coleman will have to prove that he is capable of running any route. He had a few drops in the middle of the field last season. Coleman needs to work diligently to improve his catching ability

How does he fit the Philadelphia Eagles?

Coleman is a natural fit for the Eagles. He would compete for a spot in the return game as a rookie. The Eagles need playmakers and Coleman was one of the most electric players in college. He could be used on jet sweeps, screens, and as a weapon out of the backfield.
