2024 All-CCAA Baseball Team Announced

[2024 All-CCAA Baseball Team]

Cal State San Marcos put together its best season since joining the CCAA almost a decade ago, and the Cougars were rewarded for a great season by having Garrett Teunissen named CCAA Player of the Year and Jose Garcia voted CCAA Coach of the Year.

Cal Poly Pomona's Caleb Reyes became the first student-athlete in over 25 years to repeat as CCAA Pitcher of the Year. Cal State Dominguez Hills' Noah Karliner received CCAA Newcomer of the Year honors, and San Francisco State's Jacob French was named CCAA Freshman of the Year.

Garrett Teunissen earned CCAA Player of the Year honors after leading the conference with a .399 batting average and 22 stolen bases. He had 65 hits in 44 games, including 15 doubles and five home runs, while scoring 46 runs and driving in 44. Teunissen's batting average was 17 points more than second place, and he had four more steals than second place. The junior third baseman put together a 1.065 OPS but also led the conference and ranked fourth in all of NCAA Div. II with 12 sacrifice bunts. He had posted a multi-hit performance in half of the Cougars games, and he will carry a 10-game hitting streak into the CCAA Tournament.

Caleb Reyes led the conference in earned run average for the second consecutive season to become the first student-athlete since 1997-98 (Jeff Verplancke, Cal State LA) to win CCAA Pitcher of the Year honors twice in their career. The Cal Poly Pomona right-hander posted a 2.82 ERA and was the only student-athlete to average less than three runs. Reyes ranked third in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (7.27), which helped him pace the conference with a stellar 1.02 WHIP. Only twice in all seasons did he give up more hits than innings pitched, and he allowed two runs or fewer in six of 10 starts.

Cal State Dominguez Hills' Noah Karliner hit seven more home runs than any CCAA student-athlete this season and ranks third in NCAA Div. II with 21 long balls. He is hitting .359 with 51 RBI, 50 runs scored, and a 1.173 OPS. The junior from Huntington Beach ranks in the top 5 in the conference in each category except the batting average. The Fresno State transfer registered 23 multi-hit games, including a four-hit performance against Cal State Monterey Bay. He homered against every CCAA team this season except Chico State.

Jacob French becomes the second Gator in the past three seasons to earn CCAA Freshman of the Year honors. The second baseman ranked in the top 10 in nearly every offensive category, including hits where he ranked second with 72, just one behind the conference leaders. He hit .362 with a 1.042 OPS and 50 runs scored. His 17 doubles ranked second, and he was tied for third with four triples. The Benicia, Calif., native also pitched, making ten appearances spanning 12.1 innings.

Coach Jose Garcia led Cal State San Marcos to its best finish in the CCAA and the program record for wins in a season at the NCAA level. He orchestrated a 12-game improvement in the CCAA standings from 2023, leading the Cougars to a 26-13 CCAA record and the CCAA Tournament for the first time. CSUSM led the conference with a .428 on-base percentage, a .503 slugging percentage, and 8.3 runs per game. It also ranks sixth in NCAA Div. II with 52 sacrifice bunts.

Garcia coached five Cougars to All-CCAA honors and matched Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal Poly Pomona with four on the first team. Teunissen was selected as the third baseman on the first team. He was joined by Luke Reece (2B), Phoenix Sommay (UT), and Preston Kelly (P). Ethan Rivera represented CSUSM as the second-team catcher.

Jack Sheppard (1B), J.J. Engman (OF), KW Quilici (OF), and Mitchell Torres all earned first-team honors for Cal State Monterey Bay. Nico Hartojo was a second-team selection.

Rhys Stevens and Caleb Reyes gave Cal Poly Pomona a pair of first-team All-CCAA pitchers for the second straight season. First-time selection Jack Sanders and three-time honoree Johnny Pappas joined them. Noel Soto (P) and Anthony Gibbins (DH) earned second-team nods, giving the Broncos the most total first- and second-team selections (six).

Johnny Pappas and CSUSM's Luke Reece were the only three-time selections on the 2024 All-CCAA team. Eleven others, including two honorable mentions, were repeat selections. Click here to see the complete 2024 All-CCAA Baseball Team
