THE STORYLINE,
plot points, and character developments, not having read the book, must have certainly done justice to it, as the fascinating Miss Rutherford, so too, must have in turn. Being a writer and poet, I can understand, if the assertion is true, how Christie might have had objections to Rutherfords' portrayal of Miss Marple, which, must have only been due to certain nuances intended by the author, and nuances however subtle even, that made up the entire intent of the character Marple. That said, I'm sure Christie enjoyed, even esteemed, the great rendering of Marple here nonetheless; even moreso perhaps to some degrees, as it were perhaps, less so in others. The many great, seven is it, Marple portrayals, all had a show of hand in achieving the authors' intent I'm sure.
The British have a great understanding of how the truth is so often filled with subtle humor, if not outright, overt, and even audacious, the humor of truth!

My Favourite Marple
Agatha Christie is said to have disliked Margaret Rutherford's interpretation of her famous character. However I've always preferred these early 1960s adaptations of the stories. Margaret's Miss Marple is much more fun than the original, she gets involved in the action, she has a "boyfriend" (played by her own husband Stringer Davis) and she keeps bottled beer on hand at her cottage - a girl after my own heart.
It is funny to see Joan Hickson doing her "borderline dead common" routine here when her own Miss Marple was very grand.

Excellent Miss Marple sleuthing!
This is the full movie, btw. Great print. The gentleman playing Miss Marple's friend was in actuality M.R. husband in real life. Thank you for this fine movie.

Marple in the making
Excellent addition to the Marple movie series, this with the stately as a galleon Margaret. So fun to see Joan Hickson in the role of Mrs. Kidder. Did she glean anything for her role as the great sleuth from Mags? A great deal of fun to watch.
