The legal drama follows an underdog criminal defense firm led by a fierce and uncompromising lawyer, Madeline Scott, who was wrongfully convicted in a sensational murder case that made her an infamous media obsession. Madeline runs the legal firm with her partner, Easy Boudreau, the very lawyer who helped set her free after 10 years in prison. Their team also includes investigator Bodie Quick and communications director Violet Price, who runs a true crime podcast that follows each investigation. Critics Consensus

The jury finds Proven Innocent -- on the charges of saddling fine actors with clunky dialogue, padding out its storylines with stale plot contrivances, and wasting viewers' time with rote procedural formula -- guilty on all counts.

Ed Bark Uncle Barky Ditto so far In Proven Innocent, where wronged women are on a #MeToo roll while Gore the Neanderthal keeps getting his just desserts. Rated: C+ Feb 20, 2019 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times [T]he dialogue, weighted with explicit statements of thought and feeling rather than their sidelong evocation, is often too heavy for even these fine actors to successfully lift. Feb 19, 2019 Full Review Nina Metz Chicago Tribune "Proven Innocent" is so convinced of its moral rectitude and righteousness that this kind of storytelling claptrap can't help but feel hacky and deeply uninspired. Feb 15, 2019 Full Review Bill Brioux Brioux.tv I’ve always been a fan of Montreal native Rachelle Lefevre and she’s the reason to watch this otherwise predictable law drama. Nov 5, 2022 Full Review Malcolm Hopwood Stuff.co.nz It's a good enough series, but TV programmers must admit guilt for bad placement unless proven innocent. Aug 8, 2019 Full Review John Boland Irish Independent The trumpeted new crime series, Proven Innocent...turned out to be a complete dud, despite the formidable presence of Kelsey Grammer, reprising his nasty-guy turn from that underrated and short-lived series Boss. Rania E Is a great TV series with a good story So I dunno why it was only for one season It should be more seasons of it 👍 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/11/24 Full Review Audience Member It started strong, lagged in the middle and tried really hard to tie itself up at the end. Many of the storylines were predictable due to the procedural drama format but I don't mind that. The most frustrating thing was the storylines and characters that just that just disappeared like reporter/boyfriend Dylan in first episodes, Isabel (and her fake friendship with Levi), Easy's marriage, the whole Susan Andrews character seemed unnecessary. In fact so many characters and storylines were unnecessary in my opinion and took away from what could have been a really good procedural drama with some great performances. And it's those potentially great bits that make this worth watching if you're willing to overlook the many flaws in the writing. All in all if you've got nothing better to do and you want something easy to watch give it a go. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved it. Im angry its been cancelled. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I don't think you can just judge a show on it's pilot but this show was really poorly done despite some strong supporting characters (namely Kelsey Grammar and Russell Hornsby) Every episode got more and more ridiculous. The court room scenes were ridiculous -- every one people cheering like a football game. I just couldn't get immersed in it after a while. Had potential but didn't go anywhere, I don't recommend you start it. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved the young Riley (Harry Jarvis) and Madeleine (Clare O'Connor), I wish they were explored more Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I hate it when a show fails to pay attention to details, especially when the errors are glaringly obvious. Case in point, on a recent show they had a Navy JAG officer identified as a Lieutenant Commander. Unfortunately, he was wearing the uniform of a Lieutenant Junior Grade who was a line officer (as opposed to a JAG officer). There are too many other good shows available to waste time watching programs that can't be bothered to get the details right.
