- FLnurseERBoca Raton, FL5,182 contributionsIt is one of the many Austrian lakes, with clear water, beautiful scenery along its shores, and tall peaks of the Austrian Alps reflecting on its surface.Written September 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AvideshOxford, UK598 contributionsAlthough the castle is not so beautiful compared to other castles across Austria, the combination of the castle's architecture coupled with the wooden bridge, Traunsee lake, and surrounding mountainous landscape make the place quite picturesque and spectacular. It's a must see.Written April 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- mvanroyMerelbeke, Belgium757 contributionsFrom Gmunden it's an easy 10 min ride on the recently renovated Grünberg-Seilbahn to get to Grünberg. There you have a restaurant, a summer rodelbahn, the Baumwipfelpfad and the start of multiple walks. We had a 4-year old child with us, so we were looking for something more than the 1.4 km Baumwipfelpfad walk but also not too challenging. The 4km / 1h walk to Laudachsee was perfect. This is a nice forest walk, with some spectacular views over the Traunsee. Although the walk goes up and down, it's never too challenging. As reward, you can enjoy the view over Laudachsee and the surrounding mountains, with a beer and some local food at Ramsaualm. You can also walk around the lake, but we just went down to touch the water and then went back (which is the same route).Written July 16, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Natasha YBull Creek, Australia21 contributionsIncredibly satisfying all day hike. Went up via Mair Alm Steig and down via Hernler Steig. Probably better to go the opposite way around to make it a little gentler on the way down. Other more challenging routes exist but I didn’t have harness gear with me. Gloves are a must. I also ran low on water in August which is pretty silly for an Australian where we must carry a lot.
I got the last car park at 0830, not many spaces. Round trip hike took me 9hrs (60yo taking lots of rests and pics). 1250m up, then down. Approx 10km. Recommend 2.5L+ water per person.
Not for the faint hearted nor fitness challenged.Written August 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It starts beside the Gmunden Rathausplatz and ends by joining the road leading to the Schloss Ort.Written September 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cyndi CSaskatoon, Canada60 contributionsTry to be at the Rathaus at noon to hear the beautiful ceramic bells. Pop inside, as well, for it is gorgeous as well.Written October 25, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris YSt. Albans, UK277 contributionsLimited parking was available at the end of the lake where a pay-and-display system was in place. The picturesque path took us along the lakeside for about 20 minutes before there was the option to go left under a tunnel or go right up some rocks, keeping the lake side to the right.
We opted for the tunnel route, which with hindsight was the easier route with a gradual climb up as opposed to a sharp ascent. Several tunnels were travelled before we began sharp descent towards Traunsee lake. The path had recently installed cables to help us go down. Upon reaching the shore there were a couple of beachy places to recover! Heading back now in the direction of Gmunden, the route was rocky but aided by strong wire cables to help. There was some clambering up rocks and ladders and some steep descents heading back to the junction where the tunnel option was taken earlier. The route took 2.5 hours at a liesurely pace by a group whose ages ran from 20-65 with no issue.
There are no shops, bins or kiosks on the renovated route so make sure you take everything needed with you.Written October 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is deceiving as it is over several floors, covers lots of different aspects of Gmunden history and includes an art gallery and a church! We loved the sanitary ware museum. The museum is very new and everything is beautifully displayed. I wish there had been more English information. There is a small museum shop selling Gmunden ceramics and other knock knacks. Good for a rainy day.Written June 23, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mel AVienna, Austria42 contributionseasy path through the woods with a great view and nice place to sit and enjoy that view over the lake and all the surrounding mountains!Written July 22, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alon_ViIsrael1,523 contributionsThat was our first visit at Austria among all attractions we had during 7 days with the kids, and yet, one of the best we had.
You can go to mountain slides and the slide on top of the tower but the best attraction is just waling among trees on top of them and look at the beautiful forest or the town's view.

It features a wonderfull view on the lake and the mountains, has a historic building from the time of the monarchy, and even displays a wealth of different trees including their names. A wonderful place for a stroll, to put your feet into the lake, or to go jogging.Written October 15, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AlbrechtPaul SMechelen, Belgium33 contributionsIt is not cheap, but very fast, quiet and safe to go to the Grünberg for a splendid sight of Traunsee, Traunstein and the Northern areas till the Bayerische Wald. On the top of the hill there is a tree-top walk to be paid extra, but sensational for kids too. To walk down is long and tedious, one must be in good shape to do in in 2 hoursWritten July 1, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
