Here’s the thing that senior, resistant executives need to understand - these people don't have the same traditional view of personal economical vehicles. Life is not a binary matter of being ‘employed’ or ‘unemployed’. They see TikTok, Youtube, Podcasting and Onlyfans as genuine alternatives to a job. In addition, they have a much more highly romanticized view of entrepreneurship than any generation prior (72% say they want to start a business). While Millennials may have been impressed if you worked at Google or Tesla, GenZ is more impressed if you have 300K followers on Instagram. So basically, different ball game.

What's important to understand about Generation Z on a fundamental level, is that they question everything. They are not afraid, to stand up, to challenge old-school ways of thinking or doing, (no matter what level of authority you think you may have), and they won't give in until there is change. Of course, there are positives and negatives that come with a generation of revolts and contrarians, but all in all - their ambitions and desires are good ones. What we can do is listen, seek to understand, and build a future-proof organization around the ideals of the future workforce, instead of combating, complaining, and reminiscing about the good old days.

a ‘Micro-Workplace’ is more than just a process. This speaks to a more significant mismatch between how we experience the world and how we experience work. It’s a mismatch between how our brains work and how our brains are being forced to work — at work.
