Kirkstall Abbey will provide the backdrop to the wedding

For one night only, in March 2011, Leeds will host a live TV event showing the marriage of scientist Victor Frankenstein and his bride-to-be, Elizabeth.

Frankenstein's Wedding… Live in Leeds is an ambitious music and drama event.

It will re-tell the story with performance and music and be broadcast on BBC Three.

The performance will include thousands of people recruited from local dance workshops.

Events will focus on the lavish wedding of Victor Frankenstein and his childhood sweetheart.

Phoenix Dance's Sharon Watson and her lead dancers have devised the dance that will be taught in the workshops across Leeds during February and March.

The results will be performed en masse by over 2000 dancers on the night of the performance.

The two-hour workshops (for people aged between 16-34 years old) are free and no dance experience is necessary. All dancers will receive a ticket for the event.

This bold re-imagining of Mary Shelley's book will be set against the magnificence of Kirkstall Abbey.

At the abbey there will be spectacular light projections and audience participation so that viewers at Kirkstall Abbey and at home will experience the event as it happens.

Tickets will go on general release on Friday, 18 February through the BBC Three website.

The audience will be invited to attend the event in their best wedding outfits and play a role as wedding guests.

Classic Novel

Frankenstein was written by Mary Shelley and the novel was published in 1818 when she was only 19 years old.

It merges elements of the Gothic with the romantic and has inspired many versions of the story. The story's monster has often been mistakenly called Frankenstein after its inventor.

The Passion was filmed live on the streets of Manchester

The event in Leeds follows the Manchester Passion (2006) and Liverpool Nativity (2008), similar productions which were both also broadcast on BBC Three.

The event is a collaboration between BBC Wales, BBC North and local organisations in Leeds, including Leeds City Council, Welcome to Yorkshire, Marketing Leeds and Phoenix Dance Theatre.
