The classic Mark Twain tale of a young boy and his friends on the Mississippi River. Tom and his pals Huckleberry Finn and Joe Harper have numerous adventures, including running away to be pirates and, being believed drowned, attending their own funeral. The boys also witness a murder and Tom and his friend Becky Thatcher are pursued by the vengeful murderer.

Gonna be real i dont know shit about Tom Sawyer so this was quite a delight ! The early talkie silences are charming in their own right but one scene near the end actually benefits from that eeriness. feel embarrassed to say the Tom Sawyer 1930 movie had me on the edge of my seat but it did LMAOOO
It's easy to see why this flavorless first sound film version of Mark Twain's classic novel has faded into obscurity; it lacks flow, seems like a series of indecisively staged scenes rather than a cohesive story, is visually bland in its staging and blocking, and suffers from poor sound engineering in a time when many films already had come much closer to mastering the clear and accurate recording of same.
Also problematic is Jackie Coogan, a big star of the silents who captivated the world in Chaplin's The Kid in 1921. Here, as an adolescent, he has the requisite awkwardness but none of the confidence of the little hustler in Twain's book.
Most importantly with Twain, there should be humor.…
