Four Foreigners To Coach Team India In History​

From John Wright To Duncan Fletcher

Team India has had four foreign coaches so far. Let's take a look them and their performances over the years: ​

​1. John Wright: 2000-2005

John Wright was the first foreign coach in Indian cricket history, holding the role from 2000 to 2005. Wright took charge in 2000 when Indian cricket was going through a turmoil on account of the match-fixing scandal.​

The New Zealander forged a fruitful partnership with captain Sourav Ganguly and took Indian cricket to new heights.​

The duo of Wright and Ganguly led India to a historic 2-1 Test series against Australia and home, drew a test series 1-1 in Australia.They also took India to the final of the 2003 ODI Cricket World Cup.​

2. Greg Chappell: 2005-2007 ​

Greg Chappell's tenure as India coach proved to be unpleasant following his turbulent times with captain Sourav Ganguly.​The Chappell–Ganguly controversy was caused by a series of events in late 2005 and early 2006 which involved highly publicised infighting in the Indian cricket team. ​

The dispute resulted in the removal of Ganguly as captain and his replacement by vice-captain Rahul Dravid in November 2005, with Ganguly being dropped from the ODI team.​Ganguly was also dropped from the Test team at the end of January 2006.

The controversies surrounding Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Greg Chappell came to an end after India's poor performance and early elimination from the 2007 ODI Cricket World Cup. ​

3.Gary Kirsten: 2008 - 2011

Kirsten was the coach of the Indian cricket team from 2008 to 2011. Under his coaching, India ended their ICC trophy drought after a long wait of 28 years by winning the 2011 ODI World Cup.​

4. Duncan Fletcher: 2011 -2015

Fletcher was appointed coach of the India cricket team in 2011.Under his coaching, India won the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy in England with MS Dhoni leading the team.

Under Fletcher's coaching, India achieved eight series victories in a row. His contract ended after the 2015 Cricket World Cup and was not renewed.
