From Cristo Rey Jesuit High School

We are a Catholic, coed, dual language high school located in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood. Our mission is to provide a college prep education to students from Spanish speaking families who otherwise couldn't afford a Catholic education. We do this through our unique work study model, the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP).

Somos una secundaria católica, de doble idioma para mujeres y hombre, situada en el barrio de Pilsen en Chicago. Nuestra misión es proporcionar una educación de preparación para la universidad a los estudiantes de familias de habla hispana que de otro modo no podrían pagar una educación católica. Cristo Rey is a wonderful school for students who are open to learning more about their own culture and are open to work. It can be frustrating at times, yes, but the school is meant to challenge you. I would say also, the teachers are some of the most dedicated and loving people you will ever meet. No matter what, they will help you and push you to be your best. Everyone has a unique corporate work study experience, but mine has been so wonderful so far. Also, NETWORK! This is why they push you out into the world. CR will push you to network with people who will possibly become a HUGE stepping stone in your future. My co-workers are so reliable and have given me opportunities I couldn’t have imagined taking without them. This school will push you out of your comfort zone a lot, so just be open to it and trust, you will enjoy it if you do.

Review Cristo Rey Jesuit High School

Overall, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School is a school I will never stop recommending to people. I can assure you; you will never find a community like Cristo Rey. There will always be a student going out of their way to include you or a teacher who makes it clear they want to see you succeed. When reflecting back on some of my favorite high school memories, I cannot help but think back to the beaming faces of my classmates during assemblies or all-school masses. Cristo Rey has really shown me what it means to be part of something greater than yourself. I also very much appreciate the dedication this school has to preserve Hispanic culture and ensure that we, as minorities and low-income families, have access to the same opportunities and resources as everyone else. However, some things I would like to see change is the diversity. Although students must speak Spanish to get in, it would be nice to at least have teachers and staff of more diverse backgrounds.

Cristo Rey Jesuit high School, while lacking in areas like variety of classes available, is a school that cares deeply for all of its students. The classes that are offered are taught in ways that engage the students and ensure that the students are learning. Each teacher is an expert in their class and is willing and looks forward to helping each of their students succeed. This school is always looking out for every student, offering counseling whenever needed for the students and always checking in when something seems off. There are a lot of sports and activities for students to join and many school wide events to help build community.
