Synopsis

Growing up in a poor but proud Southern family, Johnnie Gibson cultivates a burning desire to rise above her circumstances. Married at an early age to her college sweetheart, Johnnie defies her husband's need for a strong family life and pursues her career instead. Based on the true events in the life of Johnnie Mae Gibson, who became the first black, female undercover agent for the FBI.

Starting as a recruit in the Albany, Georgia, police department, she has her first professional contact with the FBI and decides to apply for the training program. Her true test comes when she is assigned to an undercover operation designed to penetrate and expose a multi-million dollar gun smuggling operation. Johnnie's emotions complicate the case, and at the end, she is forced to face a painful lesson about herself and her ambition.
