I'm TEMPEST's free spirit, Hwarang!
Song Jae-won (Hangul: 송재원), known mononymously as Hwarang (Japanese: ファラン), is the main rapper and main dancer of the South Korean boy group TEMPEST.
Pre-debut
Hwarang used to be a trainee under DSP Media and trained along with MIRAE members. In 2018, he appeared on the survival show Under Nineteen as a trainee from DSP Media but was eliminated on Episode 12 at rank 32. After the show ended, he moved to Yuehua Entertainment and made his debut with TEMPEST.
Career
2022-present: Debut with TEMPEST
Hwarang's debut with TEMPEST was originally slated for February 21, 2022 with their first mini album It's ME, It's WE; however, their debut date was later pushed back to March 2, 2022 after all the group members tested positive for COVID-19.
Personal life
Health
On October 19, 2023, Yue Hua Entertainment announced that Hwarang would undergo surgery for his injured shoulder and would be going on hiatus to recover.[1]
Hiatus
On March 6, 2024, Yue Hua Entertainment announced that Hwarang would halt activities with the group for a second time due to a lack of trust between both parties.[2]

Trivia
- He can eat everything except coriander.
- He can eat mint chocolate and Hawaiian Pizza, but they are his least favourites.
- His keyword - FREEDOM, means the desire to move to many places, develop in many ways without being bound by anything.
- Among the group members, he is the one with the longest training period, at least 7-8 years (including 6 years at DSP Media).
- His official icon is the fox (🦊). The reason why he chose it is because the fox looks like a dog but has a personality like a cat, he chose it because he wanted to show fans his various charms.
- In the group, he and Taerae are the only two left-handed members
- He has the talent of imitating the sound of the rice cooker and spinning the basketball on his fingertips
- Has a hobby of collecting shoes
- Longtime fan of Yoon Dujun of Highlight.
