I had been to the de Young Museum for over 30+ years. It’s been completely changed into a modern building with exceptional architectural lines. I came to see the Ansel Adams photography exhibition and it was only a satisfying experience.

This Modern Museum has a rather drab appearance in a pleasing section of Golden Gate Park. The longitudinal galleries display interesting collections of American and primitive art works. Well worth a visit

As far as fine art museums go, de Young is pretty nice. It's quite large and the cafe serves up some delicious food. My husband and I were here on a rainy Friday. We were going back and forth between de Young and the Academy of Sciences across the way. I had it in my mind to also visit the Legion of Honor too with our admission ticket/sticker but alas, the Legion is a further ways away and we came via bus. What I did notice that there was less seating than I was used to in the galleries, perhaps they don't want people just sitting there to look at the art for long periods of time? They did have seating in the hallways overlooking the garden below. I guess I was okay with that. I enjoyed the turn of the century paintings and portraiture on display along with a marble statue or two. The de Young does not disappoint. I’ve been a handful of times and I always discover something new. The exhibits rotate frequently enough that I’m newly engaged each time. The special collections are not to be missed as they are nicely curated and beautifully displayed. Take a moment to sit quietly and enjoy the view of the sculpture garden. The staff are very friendly and offer special hands-on programs for all ages. This museum is well worth the price of admission and your time.
