Magic at Knicks: Jamahl Mosley Reflects on First Win | "They fought and battled, I'm so excited for them," Jamahl Mosley.
Coach Mosley reflects on his first win as a head coach and talked about how proud he... | By Bally Sports Florida & Sun | Just understanding that the
guys did a great job at half time understanding how they
were guarding him and so that locker room our locker room was
communicating exactly the plays that they can make for him
using him as a play maker but then obviously he just comes
down and makes the right decision and that's the type of
that's the player he is that's the vet he's been you know
through training camp and you know what he's done for us it's
been fantastic. I thought it was really good. Uh the ball
moved sides of the floor. Guys were trusting the pass. Again,
we had the open looks. Some shots went down, some shots
didn't but these guys did a great job of trusting each
other, sharing the basketball, and playing for one another
which is what they've been trying to do. Uh what was the energy like in
in the locker room after the game I'm sure these guys are
thrilled to to get you your first win as well as the team.
Again I I always say it's about those guys man. They pulled
together. They tied together. They they fought they fought
and battled and responded back from you know from the game
previously and I just like I'm I'm so excited for them. It's
it was the fight that they put on that court all night long.
Um earlier today about maybe the deep execution on threes
knocking what you want is between the last game obviously
they start off started out pretty well but they're
thinking they feel we made six threes what keeping change
defensively for you guys well I think we picked up the ball
pressure a little bit understanding who are the
shooters not the shooters again I know Derek came down and hit
a couple of three as we went under the screen and we had to
make the adjustment you know he's done a great job just you
know just growing and knocking shots down so you know being
respected in that area but our just did a a good job
recognizing who was where and then we flew around the court
just you know multiple efforts making sure we contested all
shots. Exactly what you said Cole
coming back home and playing you know with that toughness
that confidence that resilience and you know the one thing that
stands out most is the his ability to rebound the
basketball and he made the right plays he made the simple
plays you know and that's the one thing that he's just he's
getting better and better at is just making the simple play and
he made his teammates better tonight which is which was
great to see it was good. Well, we had a film session
this morning and that and that was the high level of
communication. It was more about the resilience that you
have to have in these games. There was a point we got we got
down ten and I think it was Cole referenced the fact that
you know, hey, we talked about that this morning. You know,
down ten, we can't hang our heads. We gotta keep fighting
back. That's what we talked about this morning and so
that's the point of these guys being resilient enough to push
through. George, a couple questions on Zoom. Okay, first
one goes to Josh Robbins Athletic. Jamahl you mentioned
this but how does someone who's six two in sneakers get sixteen
rebounds in NBA game I think that's a a big portion of just
will and desire to go get it you know we challenge our
guards to rebound the ball more and that's that's what they did
and that's what Cole did I think it was just fantastic
that he got in there digging his nose in there and just
being willing to go after those little scrappy loose balls our
bigs had a a definite challenge against their bigs and so we
challenge our guards to go out and get some rebounds follow up
Josh. Yes, thank you. Uh Jamahl, how is it that you're
not drenched with ice water right now? What was the scene
like in the in the visitor's locker room in MXP? It it was
it was a good scene in the locker room. The guys were
celebrating very heavily. I was so happy for them and I also
just changed my shirt. At Michelle. Jamahl what can you
you know obviously at this point what can you guys think
about this going into tomorrow that game with Miami into the
future well I think it's the the way in which we have to
play you know I think they understand the resiliency we
have to play with the sense of urgency we have to play with
and then the ability to share the basketball you know the
ball moved the guys touched everybody had a chance of
touching the basketball we moved the ball side to side
defensively we locked in and grinded and I think that's just
again these guys understand who we have to be and not getting
down when your teams go on runs you know that's the game that's
the NBA it's a game of runs so we gotta understand these guys
be resilient in that. Well, like we talked about and we
have that the film in the the morning. Understanding what the
game is. It it it hope it that they understand that it is
gonna be a game of runs. It's a long season and you gotta know
you're gonna be games, you're gonna be down some games,
you're gonna win some games, you're gonna lose some games
but you gotta stay the same and that just goes back to what
we've been preaching these guys every single day about doing
the work every day. Staying with that process of getting
better every single day and guys just developing. Guys get
better every day. That's what we're talking about for these
guys. Yeah just real quick Jamahl
last year this is the game that you filled in for Rick Carlisle
you gotta win at the MagicTogether as your team your
first one and Raymond Campbell celebrated what was this mean
to you personally to have that first win I'll say the same
thing I I probably said then I'm just happy for that locker
room I think it's more it's about that locker room and the
resiliency that they showed to come out and fight that's
that's who this team is and I I get that's the thing that makes
me the happiest the guys played their tails off they fought
fought and battled back staff did a great you know that's the
one thing they they did a great job on recognizing time out and
little situations like that it that's what makes me the
happiest question coach Well I think he did a really
good job on Evan you know Evan is a heck of a player you know
his ability to get his shot anytime he needs to you know
him coming off and chasing pin downs Jaylen did a great job of
chasing him disrupting things getting his active hands on the
basketball but on the court you know I think if you notice it a
couple of times he's coming over to the sideline we're
communicating things that he sees different place that that
you know he recognizes will be open but I think he's the eyes
and he and the eyes of the floor understand see on the
floor and I think that's just his growth and that's what he's
been able to do. He's slowly but surely just coming along
those lines. It's it's been great to see his growth.
