I'm not sure if the park really pays homage to the Irish people who came to Canada, but it is a nice little park to get some fantastic views of the Toronto Skyline. Not the best views, but for a short ride from Union Station, it's nice.

Some of the statues might be frightening looking to young children.

This is one of the largest of these Inuit stone structures in North America. Inukshuks are important symbols of Canada's First Nations. This one is made of mountain rose granite and stands about 9m tall. Well worth a visit, if you are walking or cycling along the Toronto waterfront. The slight elevation provides great views across to Billy Bishop airport and Lake Ontario shoreline.

In Queen's park just in front of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario is the Ontario Veterans' Memorial, its a marvellous granite wall image of battles over a long number of years and well worth the visit to see.

The statue of Queen Victoria takes a very prominent position at the front of this grand civic building. It reminds of so many I have seen at home in the UK. Every one seems to have a statue of Victoria. Having said that this is a very impressive statue

I recently had the pleasure to visit Canada and spent a day in Toronto. Walking around the city I stumbled upon the South African War Memorial. I found the inscription on the plaque interesting which read as follows” To the memory and in honour of the Canadians who died defending the Empire in the South African war – 1899 to 1902”
The comments below are in no way intended to disrespect the soldiers or their families who died in this conflict.
    1. South Africa as a country did not exist in 1899. It was made up of four geographic areas known as the Cape Colony (British control), Natal (British Control), Orange Free State (independent Republic) and the Zuid Afrikaans Republiek (independent Republic). These geographic areas became provinces when the Union of South Africa was established in 1910
    2. The Empire in this instance was the aggressor (not defender) though Cecil John Rhodes and his cohorts who incited a war to lay their greedy hands on the gold and diamond riches of these independent republics by invading them and claiming the mines.

His work Immigrant Family, commissioned for a new development in Toronto, honors a fundamental truth about the growth in population in North America. I love these! There is something incredibly adorable about the characters in this sculpture.

Immigrant Family, a work by New York sculptor Tom Otterness, sits outside the Lanterra condos at 18 Yonge Street. The 10-foot high bronze work was unveiled in 2007.

The Adam Beck Memorial in downtown Toronto commemorates Sir Adam Beck, the founder of the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario. Beck was born in Baden, Ontario in 1857 to German immigrant parents. The memorial is located in the landscaped median of University Avenue just south of Queen Street West.

The William Lyon Mackenzie Memorial, located on the west side of the Ontario Legislative Building in Queen’s Park, The work features a tall vertical pedestal supporting a bronze bust of William Lyon Mackenzie. Behind and to the right is a horizontal granite pedestal surmounted by a bronze figure leaning forward and holding a law book in one hand and a broken harness in the other, symbolizing the oppressed farmers who rose up against the British colonial government.

In 2007 Edwina’s Pillars of Justice was installed in front of the Toronto Law Courts at the McMurtry Gardens of Justice. The 20-foot-wide aluminum sculpture consists of a stylized courthouse facade supported by pillars shaped like men and women. These represent the jury, the part of the legal system in which the public most often participates
