How Justine Bateman Achieved a Net Worth of $6 Million

Justine Bateman

Justine Bateman is a somewhat notable figure in the American film and TV industry. She has done a fair amount of acting, but right now, she should be best known for being a writer, a director, and a producer. Bateman seems to be successful because Celebrity Net Worth estimates that she has a net worth of $6 million.

What Is Justine Bateman's Background?

Bateman isn't the only one in her family involved in the American film and TV industry. Her mother was a flight attendant. Meanwhile, her father was a film director and a producer. It seems reasonable to speculate that their father's career had something to do with both Bateman and her brother entering the American film and TV industry. For those who are curious, she is the older sister of Jason Bateman. Generally speaking, IMDb says said individual is known for the 2000s sitcom Arrested Development. However, Jason Bateman has worked on a wide range of other movies and TV shows.

In any case, Bateman was born in the state of New York. Later, she went to high school in the state of California. Bateman's acting career started early enough that she wasn't able to go to college because of her contractual obligations. Fast Company reports that the Family Ties line producer straight-up blocked her from doing so because she was under contract.

What Did Justine Bateman's Early Career Look Like?

Family Ties is the sitcom in which Bateman had the most prominent role of her acting career. There, she played the character Mallory Keaton, the main family's second child. It is interesting to note that Family Ties put a fair amount of focus on the cultural transition from the liberalism of the 1960s and 1970s to the conservatism of the 1980s. As a result, the main family's parents are liberals, while their two oldest children are conservatives. Their firstborn son is the one with very forceful views on the way that things should be. In contrast, Bateman's character was more casual in the sense that she is more about materialism than any deeply-held political opinions. In total, Family Ties ran from 1982 to 1989.

It is no exaggeration to say that Bateman became very notable at the time because of this. Generally speaking, people don't get asked to host Saturday Night Live unless they have become known to the public. Given this, it is telling that Bateman hosted the show in 1988. Unfortunately, her career didn't go from high to high even though she continued working as an actress into the early 2010s. Certainly, Bateman showed up in some well-known projects. For example, she was in a few episodes of Desperate Housewives. Similarly, she had one-episode appearances in both Arrested Development and Modern Family. Still, it says a lot that Bateman's role as Mallory Keaton remains her most notable role.

What Is Justine Bateman Doing Nowadays?

Even though Bateman continued working as an actress into the early 2010s, she showed an interest in other roles long before that point. For instance, Bateman took a hiatus in the early 2000s. During that time, she founded a clothing design company that focused on unique hand knits. It wasn't particularly successful, as shown by how it was around from just 2000 to 2003. Likewise, Bateman founded a digital content company in 2007, which didn't make as much progress as she liked.

By that, chances are good that interested individuals can guess Bateman has a fair amount of affinity with tech. Supposedly, she was one of the earliest adopters of Tumblr. As Bateman described it, she joined up when that meant following Tumblr employees and being followed by Tumblr employees, which speaks volumes about the small size of the user base in those days. Regardless, Bateman eventually decided to go to college on a full-time basis even though she was already a mother with school-aged children. She struggled, but in the end, she graduated from UCLA with a degree in computer science and digital media management. That was in 2016.

With that said, Bateman never cut ties with the American film and TV industry. Her interest in tech is very much connected to her involvement with said industry. For that matter, Bateman remains involved with the more traditional roles in the American film and TV industry. For proof, look no further than the fact that she served as writer, director, and producer for the movie Violet in 2021. It isn't clear how the movie performed. Nowadays, gauging such things has become harder than ever for interested individuals, not least because there are now more distribution channels to pay attention to. Still, Violet wasn't just one of those movies that get released to die a quick death in obscurity. Furthermore, the critics seemed to have a fair amount of fondness for it, as shown by how it has an 81 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Sadly, the audience doesn't seem to have liked it quite as much.

How Will Justine Bateman's Net Worth Change in the Future?

Not much is known about either Bateman's finances or how Bateman's finances will change in the future. Yes, she was on one of the most successful sitcoms of the 1980s. However, that was a long time ago, meaning that she doesn't get paid much for it. According to the Fast Company article, she got a residual check for 25 cents, which isn't exactly an impressive sum in any recent decade. Still, Bateman doesn't seem like she needs to work. Instead, she does so anyway because she is that kind of person.

Much of Bateman's estimated net worth seems to be connected to her property. Celebrity Net Worth says she and her husband bought a Hollywood Hills home for $1.825 million in 2003. Unsurprisingly, the property has seen a great deal of appreciation, so much so the site says its value is around $4 million. Only time can tell how else Bateman's net worth will change in the times to come.
