Barton Division of Athletics highlights 2023-24 achievements with The Barkys

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College Division of Athletics celebrated the 2023-24 academic year with the Barkys, the annual awards show sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) which highlights the Bulldogs student-athletes' accomplishments.  The show took place on Monday, April 29, at Wilson Gymnasium.

Highlighting the evening were the Male and Female Athletes of the Year which were awarded to Jordan Terrell and Harrison Wierse (co-winners) and Tilde Howeler.

Terrell, a junior running back from Ramseur, N.C., became the first-ever NCAA Division II All-American in Barton football's young history this past fall.

In 2023, Terrell finished ranked second in the nation in rushing yards (1,732) and rushing yards per game (157.5) to go along with 11 touchdowns on the ground.  Terrell rushed for a school and league-record 403 yards – 22 yards off an all-time D-II single-game record – in the Bulldogs' 48-14 victory over Erskine on Saturday, November 11.

Terrell, a three-time All-Super Region II (2021-23) and two-time All-South Atlantic Conference (2022-23) First-Team selection, finished his Bulldogs' career with 5,487 yards rushing and 44 touchdowns.

Wierse, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., was named the 2024 Conference Carolinas Men's Golfer of the Year after leading the league with a 71.0-stroke average and helping the Bulldogs claim their second straight league championship.  In addition, Wierse was the individual medalist at the 2024 Conference Carolinas Men's Golf Championship last week at the Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, N.C.

Wierse has also guided the No. 15 Bulldogs to a berth in the 2024 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Men's Golf Regional Championship which is taking place from Thursday, May 9, through Saturday, May 11, at the Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Ga.

Howeler, a junior from Stockholm, SWEDEN, is the first Bulldog in 25 years to be named the Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Player of the Year.  Howeler also helped lead Barton to its first conference regular season championship since 2004 this spring.
