Rating 4.12 out of 5 680 reviews
My overall experience is fairly decent because of my friends and teachers. Although some teachers can be a bit difficult to understand, a good bit of them actually have immersive lesson plans that allow for students to understand as well as their abilities to answer questions thoroughly and to your understanding. As for school culture, there are many activities throughout the year that I have taken upon myself to be more involved in, i.e, the clubs at our school. Since our school is one of the most diverse schools in the county, we have many clubs to showcase it. We also have seasonal pep rallies with games and performances. Throughout Fairfax County Public Schools, from Elementary to High School, there has been an overall trend in cultural acceptance and more showcases showing that. For example, elementary schools are starting to implement International Nights. The cultural of FCPS is founded by closeness despite different grade levels, which explains the many volunteer opportunities.
I experienced significant personal and academic growth. For me, high school played a role in my personal development. In my childhood and pre-teen years, I would make every single excuse to not hang out when my friends invited due to my insecurities, fearing I wouldn't fit in. personal growth also had a positive impact on my academics. It helped me develop effective time management skills, which were crucial in balancing my workload. Overcoming my habit of procrastination, which had previously led to insufficient studying and forgotten homework assignments, became a priority. I focused on pursuing courses that genuinely interested me, rather than trying to meet expectations. This shift led to significant academic progress as I expanded my knowledge in previously lacking areas and developed critical thinking through class discussions, Additionally, I became more comfortable seeking guidance and support from my teachers.
Throughout my experience in Fairfax County, I have learned a lot and met some great teachers. With that being said, some of the grading policies and schoolwide mandates focus more on making it harder to fail classes and improving the schools graduation rate without fixing the real issues like attendance and quality of curriculums.
