Old Hat Shop in Columbus?

PHOTO

My partner just bought a huge collection of antique hat making supplies from what appears to be a shop that must have closed in the 1990’s possibly. We are looking for information on the history of the company, who he says must have been in the foremost of his craft, given the equipment he was using. Does anyone know the name of the shop or family who owned it? We haven’t gone through the huge amount of times yet, but will update once we find more clues. Sincerely, the hat makers wife.

Oh man, that picture has me jealous! I'm an amateur hat maker myself but only have one block because they're so expensive! I wish I had known these were all for sale!

This is but a fraction. It’s all so cool. I went into black hole researching last night trying to find anything about the shop

Are you going to make hats now??? How can I get in on this?

Edited

My partner owns a hat shop in Florida and drove to Ohio to buy the lot. All of this stuff is extremely rare

Edit: he flew to Ohio and drove back to FL with a very full rental van.

I’d love a link to the shop, seriously I like hats. DM if you prefer!

‘Til Death Hat Co. - he wants no attention so will kill me but I’m proud…. Here’s a link to the story our public radio station did on him last week Florida man makes hats

Florida Man, at it again! I get down that way every once in a while and will definitely be stopping in. As a sidenote, there are so many Ohio natives living in Florida at this point, I bet he could use this connection to get them pretty excited about buying his hats. It would be very nostalgic.

Thank you for letting me know about this wonderful thing!

If anyone has grandparents in / from Columbus still around, please ask if they knew of a hat maker in town. The supplies were found hidden away in an old upholsterers shop that was maybe a hat shop previously.

Lazarus? Not a mom and pop but maybe a smaller shop bought their supplies. They auctioned a lot after being bought out by Macy’s in 2003. https://ohiomemory.org/digital/collection/p267401coll32/id/11367/rec/1

Oh this is amazing and most definitely a contender, thank you.

What an interesting life you must lead. :o)

I own a plant shop and he owns a hat shop so I guess a little out of the ordinary

Cool! Lucky you. Sounds like the start of a charming yet strange Netflix show. <3
