Don't drink the water.
4 of us walked across the border from Texas to Mexico to get lunch and shop. Me, my girlfriend, her sister and her boyfriend. Found a restaurant with what appeared to be a whole goat spit roasting in front window. I figured this was the place for lunch, dragged the others in. When ordering, I mentioned the old 'don't drink the water' bit, so other 3 ordered margaritas, while I got a Corona. Into the second round, I asked what the others thought the large amounts of ice in their drinks were made of. Doh! Water! - ☆That's why I got a Corona. No one got sick, and both couples are married 20 some years later.
In Mexico, the ice is made from purified water. People/restaurants purchase ice, they don't make it from the tap water. One way to tell if it's from purified water is that commercial ice is cylindrical with a hole in the middle.
Finally, a legitimate comment!
YOU HAVE DIED OF DYSENTERY.
I came here for Oregon Trail references and found them.
I am finally at the Kansas River crossing.
Most ice in Mexico is made from purified water.
Plot twist: they’re all Mexicans.
And what about the goat?
Unpopular opinion: goat meat is vastly overrated!
Even bacteria avoid it.
And it was swimming in sugar, salt, lime, and alcohol. So there's that. All of which... Kill or prevent bacteria growth.
Freezing point kills most bacteria.
No, it inactivates most bacteria while at that temperature.
The bacteria can again be active when unfrozen.
This is an important distinction.
