We all want our children to succeed. What happens when they do?

Britney Spears wanted to sing ever since she was a little girl. But the years of sacrifices, auditions, performances, albums, fame, and paparazzi left the little Louisiana family swept up and spun around, and nothing turned out the way anyone ever imagined or wanted. Now Lynne shares the inside story of the Spears family as only a mother can.

Through the Storm takes readers outside the narrow orbit of the Hollywood glitterati. Lynne shares how fame forever changed their family; her regrets letting managers, agents, and record companies direct the lives of her children; the challenges that shaped Lynne and Jamies failed marriage and how they affected Bryan, Britney, and Jamie Lynn; the startling events that led to Britneys breakdown; the aftermath of Jamie Lynns pregnancy; and how the family has tried pulling together to recapture a sense of hope and purpose.

Through the Storm, says Lynne, is the story of one simple Southern woman whose family got caught in a tornado called fame, and who is still trying to sort through the debris scattered all over her life in the aftermath. Its who I am, warts and all, with some true confessions that took a long time to get up the nerve to discuss.

This is a great inside look into the Spears' lives. Though it is obviously biased b/c it's her mother, still a good read if you're interested in Britney and the 'dark days'. I'm still very skeptical of her family though, I know her dad has control over her personal and professional affairs to this day b/c of the conservatorship she has been placed under since '08. That's just a little odd. He is payed upwards of 16K a month for the c-ship. Her mother also has a monthly allowance. I honestly feel as though Britney wants to be done with showbiz and her parents want her to continue b/c of the benefits they reap. And with legal rights to her decision making, she can't do anything about it. I feel that in 20 - 30 years, Britney Spears will be one of those odd pop culture phenomenon. In her life she seemed to have it all, but once she is gone we'll all truly see that her life wasn't all it was cracked up to be, and because of the way things worked out, she legally could do nothing about it. Like a prisoner in her own dream.

If you want to know more about Britney and her family's life, this is definitely a good read. It gave me a lot of context as to what was going on at the time and why things turned out the way that they did. The book went over their family life, included interesting accounts of major events in their life (the Rolling Stones magazine cover, altercations with the paparazzi, etc.), and more. The book is written from Lynne's perspective and her discussion of everything comes off as very genuine. I would recommend reading it.

I read this book and it was not worth the paper it was printed on. I am so glad I bought a cheap used copy. From start to finish it is one long symphony of "pity me, love me, I'm so good, I'm so special, I've never done anything wrong." I don't believe Lynne is quite the monster that the media made her out to be, but I don't for one moment believe she is/was as naive, clueless, and without fault as she claims to be. If you are looking for dirt on Britney and Jamie Lynne, this is not the book. It's one claim to worth, in my opinion, is that she did not expose all of her daughters' dirty little secrets. But other than that, it is a plethora of whining and excuses. Lynne Spears did not get a college degree by being as stupid as she claims she was/is. Lynne Spears complains in the book about the sacrifices she made -- oh poor lady! She had to live in New York for a while, my goodness, what a terrible tragedy! Well, she managed to afford to do it. And she has reaped numerous rewards for all her efforts. The book is filled with lies and half-truths, all designed to make Lynne Spears look greater than Mother Teresa. I suppose the one thing that is most annoying is that she talks about how very, very much she misses the teaching job she "sacrificed" to help her daughter. She claims this while living a life of ease in her lovely home called "Serenity." We are supposed to feel sympathy for that great sacrifice. She fails to mention that she is free now to go back to teaching if she loves working for a living so much. In other words, this book is worthless. You finish it and at the end, you have only learned one thing -- Lynne Spears is a narcissist and she has just begged you to worship her.

I purchased this book from Amazon years ago and loved it.I recently reread it and as a Britney fan,its been 10 years since that tumoultous time and I'm so proud of how far she has come.In 2007,I was also in free fall with the illness and death of my grandmother and terrible downfall of my first love. Its good to know we've all Come out of those times. Also,I Appreciate Lynn's sharing of her life with her family,I was in tears many times over the love and sadness of her sister Sandra passing. It was as much a love story of that sisterhood as anything.

Honestly a great book to read. Very inspirational and at times made me emotional! I was born, raised, and still live in southern Louisiana and reading some of her passages made me miss my parents and huge family! Wonderful book. I am not only a Britney fan, I'm a Spears fan! Southern stick together!

I wasn't impressed by this book but it was based on true life so sometimes that's the way life is. Lynne spears appears to be a good mother who just wants her daughter to succeed in life. This book def gives you a different vantage point on the Spears family. Celebrity's in general always are different than what they seem to the public.
