Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I just bought this because it was the only way to get the song "Little Sheba". No other greatest hits compilations of the band have that song and it's one of my favorites. I bought it just for that and thought that everything else would be crap but surprisingly I like every song except the high charting "Second Chance", which at the time it came out I thought it was crap. I like it just a little now but it's my least favorite track on the cd. If you compare this to their earlier style you may not like this but if pretend you're not listening to .38 special and don't compare it to their older stuff you should like it. I really have a hard time believing that this cd only has a 3 star average, when to me, this is better than STRENGTH IN NUMBERS as a whole. Someone said the tracks that Van Zant sang came off better but I'm not sure which ones he sang, to be honest. "Little Sheba" is worth the purchase so give it a try for that one and you might just like most or all of the entire album. Enjoy!!!
The cd was in great condition. Being used I expected some signs of use. It is like new. It arrived in just 2 days. I am very pleased with my purchase as I have been with my previous ones
First of all, I don't know why people bash this album, calling it a "pop" album. Sure, it's a little slower and less edgy than previous albums, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a "pop" album. It features the hit single SECOND CHANCE, which is a pop song. The rest of the album features some pretty good rockers, such as LITTLE SHEBA, HOT'LANTA, and COMIN' DOWN TONIGHT. Another cool but slower song is MIDNIGHT MAGIC. I was pleasantly surprised at the musicianship with these tunes; they're not of "filler" caliber. What I really can't believe is that this album came out 23 years ago. I can't believe how fast time has flown by; I remember this album debuting like it was yesterday. One last comment: I think that Donnie Van Zant is easily the best vocalist in the Van Zant family, followed by Ronnie, then Johnny. Donnie was blessed with the best pipes.....that's just my opinion.
the only thing i did not like is when i owned this one i had it sign by the band and this came in unsigned but i liked this cd i bought it the album is own my phone.thanks
Just got it today!!-9/4/13!! I love it!! Excellent!! Fantastic!! Great work!! I love Amazon & all it offers!! I will do all my shopping here!! A++++++++ :o)
38 Special dialed it down for this release ... going more pop than harder rock. While there are certainly a couple "crank it up" tunes on this CD .... it is mostly a move on their part to become more "commercial friendly". As with just about all 38 Special albums, the musicianship is solid here, and there are a few above average songs ...
2 years after the underwhelming 'Strength in Numbers',the band rung the changes Barnes (guitar) and Brookin (drums) were out and Chauncey (guitar) and Carl (keyboards) were in. Rodney Mills was back in the producers chair and for me that was a maser stroke.
Yes the parping keyboards were still too promiment(for me) but the guitars were higher up in the mix, as immediately noticeable in the snappy title track and the follow up track 'Whats it To Ya'
For the most part its quality AOR but it becomes wearysome after a while, thank the lord for 'Hot 'Lanta' with fire in its belly, sadly 'Chattahoochie' is just crap. other highlights 'Comin Down Tonight' and 'Innocent Eyes' have hints of the 80's band. So an improvement on the previous album but still not a patch on the early classics. 3.5 stars.
